Using Chicago, Il for the location, I found 2 listed as 30 miles away in Portage, Indiana. Spefically listed as Hardee's/' Red Burrito. The next closest where listed in Wisconsin. If there are still any in Il they must be pretty far south of here. I think there used to be one within reasonable driving distance of Hamburger University.

I still prefer KFC to the other chains in the area, Popeyes, Church's, Chicken Express and Chik-fi-let. I do agree that it's not as good and I do miss being able to choose keels. I always get the cole slaw side but when they had 4 bean salad I use to love it.

We have 8 Hardee's or Hardee's/Red Burrito in the greater Peoria area, but none of them offer fried chicken.

Current Original Recipe KFC = Kentucky FRAUD Chicken
Modern day OR KFC ,except for salt and pepper, has not the taste of KFC 40 years ago when the Colonel was alive , If there is any of the 11 herbs and spices still in the recipe they're few and far between ! $$$ and bottom line profit rule at KFC Corp not taste and quality.

Our local KFC seems to be doing well, but the taste is not what it used to be.  I taste the salt and the pepper and that's about it.  And, it's not exactly cheap for fast food.  I still have it every now and then, but only every now and then.

This thread caused me to realize that i'm not really a fried chicken eater to any extent. If we eat fried chicken, its usually from one of the local gas stations that offer it. My wife has brought home KFC once in a blue moon and I couldnt tell you if its good or not because i'm a terrible judge. I toss the skin away from all chicken whether its fried or not.

isn't that the case with every chain out there?
they're all owned by mega corps. where the only thing that matters is the bottom line.
screw the public, they'll eat it because of the name, that is their belief.
do you think the CEO's are eating there?

Of course, what most people forget is that in our endless quest to be healthy while still eating fast food (I still don't get it, but whatever), they are now using non-hydrogenated non-saturated fat, non-whatever oil to fry the chicken.  Fried chicken needs FAT for frying to taste good.

felix4067, it is not OUR endless quest to be healthy
it is the GOVERNMENTS & special interests groups quest to keep us healthy.
thats the bottom line to it.
don't get me started about the people who are 25 years old, over weight drug addicts collecting OUR social security money because they claim they can't work.
yes there are exceptions,BUT
social security was stared as AND ONLY AS a government retirement for ONLY those who contributed to it.
you got me started but I'm stopping now.

Well...I said nothing whatsoever about social security, so please don't blame ME for getting YOU started on what is obviously a hot-button topic for you.  I was simply commenting on the trend in the last ten years to make fast food healthy.  And by "our", I did not necessarily mean "you and me" (as evidenced by the fact that I also said I don't get it), but rather the population in general.  Drug addicts and the age of people collecting social security benefits were brought into this discussion solely by you.

Young Drug addicts prefer KFC 2 to 1.
Social Security folks go to buffets and drop the chicken down their pants
for a late night snack.

bill voss, could we please see the evidence (statistics and/or pictures) behind your two statements above?  I question their accuracy, since as a "Senior-Citizen-Social-Security" person that occasionally will go to a buffet, I have yet to see a single person dropping food "down their pants".  Dropping food ON their pants, yes;  DOWN their pants, no!

I'm pretty much done with KFC ... I've always wanted to try Popeyes and did yesterday and can say without any hesitation that I like Publix far better than either of the aforementioned.

Gregg, I wish our supermarket deli-chicken was as good as Popeyes, as it is about half the price of the FF stands (all of them). BUT, it isn't any good at all. Rubbery, breading that is so thick it seems like wallpaper paste with a lot of salt on it.  Very disappointing.  I comment positively on Popeyes as I see it as the best of a lot of rather ordinary (or less) fried chicken.

Every now and then I like having a breast and wing (extra crispy) from KFC. I haven't been disappointed the past 3 or 4 times I've had them, the chicken is fresh and the skin is crispy. I know it's KFC though so I'm probably just getting lucky. I really do enjoy Golden Skillets fried chicken when I'm back in Hackettstown though, in addition to their chili dogs
