KFC's Kentucky Grilled Chicken

Hey guys, I just got through with lunch and wanted to give my take on KFC's new grilled chicken. First off they are selling a 2 piece with 2 sides and a biscuit for $3.99. I ordered white meat and believe it or not there was no up charge for it.

First impression, it didn't look like what you see on TV. It had not pretty dark grill marks but the meat had grill indentions on it that reminded me of a giant George Foreman grill on 'roids. The wing was actually pretty crispy and the breast skin had a little crispiness to it. The flavor was a little on the salty side but not as much as their original recipe does. I will admit the chicken is VERY tender and easy to pull off the bone. I am thinking they probably salt brine it at some point. I also tasted nothing but salt but I may have missed something else.

Not bad for KFC around here and might try it again with some good HOT eastern NC BBQ sauce with it.

Tried it the other day just for kicks..before I get to the chicken ,must relate my ordering exp...here the special was 2 pieces w/ mashed and cole slaw , biscuit...I wanted beans instead of mashed and was told I could not have them as part of the special. I very nicely told the Little Colnelette who was waiting on me that I would pay extra for the beans, and asked her to put them on the plate instead of the potatos;this was too much for the poor lass- she retreated back into the innner chicken sanctum where I saw her conversing with a manager type, and finally she came out and finished serving, still looking confused though.
As to the chiken, though I admit to being an occassional fan of KFC Original, you won't find me getting this stuff again.Found it kind of tasteless( except for salt) and also those were the tiniest little thigh and leg I have ever seen - midget chickens!

I tried it the day they came out with it. I pronounce it to be ~ Delicious!
A real time saver for me to be able to finally grab a little (healthier) "fast food" on the way home after work.

I never had any problems ordering mine. 2 (large) thighs and 4 (large) wings. No sides.
    Served, lickety split for $4.99.

Speaking of the size of the pieces, my breast was about normal but the wing was tiny... could be why it was so crispy.

While I think it is wise for KFC to go on the so called healthy side, I dont go there when I am hungry for their original chicken, cole slaw and mashed with gravy. Come to think of it, I dont go there at all anymore due to the diminutive size of their chicken. I mourn the loss of the older days of KFC.

I am just old enough (40) to remember when KFC was really good. To me now it is a spur of the moment, let's grab some chicken kind of place now. An I REFUSE to eat the extra crispy as we just don't like the aftertaste that coats our mouths. The original has also gotten very greasy as well.

Don't you folks have decent fried/grilled chicken restaurants in your vicinities?  How can you support a firm that gets its meat from unscrupulous suppliers?

It can't be any worse than that roast chicken crap, or whatever they called it a few years ago.  That was some of the nastiest stuff I've ever tried to eat.  It seemed like they used soup mix or something to coat the chicken.

KFC suppliers cram birds into huge waste-filled factories, breed and drug them to grow so large that they can’t even walk, and often break their wings and legs. ...PETA

I love animals too, love some more when they are cooked...would not trust much that PETA says though ....have not seen any evidence of large / monster chickens at KFC...if anything they are midget chickens...

Chickens that are bred for food have no concept of mistreatment.  They eat, they crap, they eat, they crap.  They're happy.

I think the  only live monster chickens are the two legged humans who give no thought to the conditions animals are raised in, for food or otherwise.

Have you ever personally seen a facility that breeds and grows chickens?

Well,  there is a diner near me that has a sign out that says   "World's Best Fried Chicken".  However, I read that the owner is on duty every day of the week so  I am not certain of how he could have decided that his was the best when he has not traveled around at all.

Let me get this right.  You're making a judgment on today's treatment of chickens based on something you saw thirty some years ago?

KFC has stirred up controversy down here.  They are not offering the grilled chicken in any of the Memphis stores only out in the suburbs.   People are making the assumption that KFC views Memphis a fried chicken only populus.

That is absolutely not true. The franchisee has the choice whether or not they want to implement new products like this. A lot of the time it is a smart business decision to not change your menu and start adding this and that, because in the long run, the majority of these ideas fail. Also, I had the chicken and it sucked, tiny peices and no flavor, it would be a good price if you got a good product, but you don't.

My husband planned on getting the grilled chicken last night.  We drove by KFC and there wasn't a place to park and they drive thru was 10 deep.

I don't know if it's a hit around here, or just curiosity.

    Hello All,
KFC literally makes me ill, but I will try the grilled
chicken, hoping that it is not so greasy.
Regarding the raising and processing of poultry,
    (I live a 10th of a mile from a poultry plant)
it is best to follow the policy of "Don't Ask,
    Don't Tell."
But my last words have nothing to do with the
    taste of KFC's grilled chicken.
    Take Care,

i tried a leg the other day when they were giving away the grilled chicken for free as part of a promotion. i thought it was quite good (although i had really low expectations, as i havent really liked kfc in at least 10 years) it was moist, with a crispy skin. not very complicated seasoning, it tasted like poultry seasoning. if i were in a position to be in  a kfc, while on the road or if a friend wanted to go there, i would certainly order it

$23 for a Chicken meal, 10 pcs chicken (mixed, grilled and original), mashed potatoes, and cole slaw with a small side of popcorn chicken for the beagle.

Beagle's popcorn chicken ($3.39) came in a little gravy bowl.  There were 4 pieces of chicken in the bowl ( the sign said $1.99 - wasn't in the mood to fight).

The combo bucket consisted of 10 pieces of mixed chicken (regular/grill).  Pitiful.  The grill pieces looked like they came from pee-pees, and the regular was horrible.

We've decided to stick with the butcher shop, the chicken is A-OK.

I'm not a fan of it. It seems like a lame attempt to offer a grilled option on the menu, but they aren't sure how to prepare it without coming up with a whole new method. The grill lines are fake, the seasonings are bland. The chicken itself had good texture, except the exterior was a bit dry. Overall I wasn't very impressed, although it's definitely a step in the right direction. If I want grilled chicken, I'll go elsewhere.

I can't imagine that it is as flavorful as Pollo Tropical or Pollo Campero, both of which are in the neighborhood, if I want non-fried, take-out chicken.
