I am staying two nights at The Westin Crown Center in KC. Need to take customers out to dinner. Prefer place within walking distance. No roadside diners, please. Looking for a reasonably priced (steak $20-30) place that serves good food. Thanks for all suggestions

Almost as close as the Hereford House are Lidia's and Fiorella's JackStack. 1 block north of the Hereford House is 1924 Main. At the same address as the name. They have a great prix fixe menu and comtemporary food. You could have3 courses for $30 or under. And it's good! The pasta tasting menu at Lidia's is all you can eat, the pasta servers bring it to your table, it's under $20 a person. City Tavern has great seafood, it's in the same Freight House complex and Lidia's and Fiorella's. They may be a little more pricey, but they have an interesting menu. Hope the weather cooperates with your travel plans!

here;s the thread you need:http://www.chowhound.com/midwest/boards/midwest/messages/20352.html you've got the American Restuarant and Peppercorn Duck Club in Crown Center, tho more expensive than your parameters,+the Southwest Blvd./west pennway district a few blocks to the west. http://kansas.lidiasitaly.com/index2.htm My favorite downtown would probably be the Savoy Grill, at 9th and Central, if I had one meal within a mile of Crown Center. Trust zataar's suggestions. Bill

I can translate KCese. She meant 1924 Main, a restuarant, & Lidia's. Jack stack is definitely a Q place, though no dive. They are all within a few blocks of each other and Crown Center. Bill

Bill V's suggestion of the Savoy is a good one. Not within walking distance, but certainly an affordable taxi fare. They have one of the most beautiful bars around. Shiraz on Southwest Blvd. is place that has more ethnic influences, but it is a fine dining restaurant for people who may want something a little more eclectic. Unless you are eating at the American, Morton's or The Peppercorn Duck Club at the Hyatt, you'll probably need to plan on not walking anywhere. There is a skywalk to Union Station, so Pierpont's is an option, it's owned by the Hereford House people. It may be possible to keep costs at $20-30 a person there.
