Yes, though a couple of hours away from that location.

      Not at all, Bill.

I was enjoying the difference of opinions.

I'm off to northern Michigan in a few minutes. Hope to have Coney Islands, whitefish, and perch. Tomorrow's lunch will probably be at an Irish pub on Mackinac Island.

Yes, but "present WJ" can't find Bierocks outside of Nebraska and Kansas (maybe parts of Central California too) however "he" can find Korean in just about any medium-large size city.

On the other hand, WJ can probably get fried chicken in every city, but he might want to vist Stroud's or the Brookville Hotel. :-)

Actually, you're probably right, there is lots of fried chicken to be had anywhere- locally I can go to KFC- just about everyone in Rhode Island says its the best fried chicken anywhere!

I've been to Strouds- and I look forward to going back in June- I'm hoping the new location will be open by then.

Great photos of the Sand Hill cranes. Portland has a great place called the Cameo Cafe which serves huge breakfasts, excellent bread and kim chee omelettes. Trudy hates Korean food so i don't eat it much.

My in-laws lived within walking distance of the Platte River for 20 years, in Valley, NE. I used to love walking over to see it. Thanks for the visual memories, and the excellent report.

                    Blush. Thanks.

I'm not sure how appropriate the photos are, of things other than the restaurants.

found this lady's excellent array of central Kansas restaurants and thought I would just glom it on to Keith's trip report. Enjoy.

Thanks Bill. We stop in Wilson, KS everytime we go by on I-70. Usually to pick up some sausage at the market there (Czech Meats). Now we have a reason to make it a meal stop. "Made From Scratch" the last place on that review list, sounds like our kind of place!!

I tired Made From Scratch in late January. Either the place has slipped, or they were having a bad day. The hamburger was overcooked, their signature homemade potato chips were more the consistency and taste of canned potato sticks, and the service was very slow.

I also tried a bierock, which I didn't care for - but that one could just be me - after 3 or 4 tries, I haven't cared for any of the bierocks I've tried.

When I mentioned my experience to folks in Lucas later in the day, they said that Made from Scratch had turned over most of their staff.

I had a better experience at the Midland Hotel, across the street and railroad tracks from Made From Scratch. This hotel was featured in the movie Paper Moon.

Lovely old setting. The food was mostly good - the ingredients were very good. Just wish they hadn't charred my medium steak! Speaking to the only other guests in the dining room, a couple who are regulars, that is a consistent problem at the hotel, and his steak had been also overcooked.

I plan to eat there again, while stressing how to cook the steak.

AL, where do you get the sausage? I get Czech sausage regularly in nearby Lucas, but haven't tried anywhere in Wilson.

                          Keith
