The pic: Tell me what the reddish stuff topping the beef is. Mr Stern's review does not disclose what this is.....

That's the BBQ Sauce. It has a nice peppery flavor to it.

Seriously...hmm I would have thought you wouldn't want to mask the beef flavor with a strongly flavored sauce Does the standard-built sandwich come like that, or is it an add-on or option?

You have to specifically ask for the sauce, which, in my opinion, I wouldn't order without.

My first thought was a brown gravy, which I think I'd prefer. Regardless, it looks simply delicious even at this time of the morning!

I do not much care for red meat as a rule, but I do like these sandwiches! Good point about the sauce masking the flavor though, I think it enhances the sandwich as a whole, it just makes it taste better!! It is not a sweet bbq sauce, nice tingle on the lips and VERY good!! I think a brown sauce/gravy would make it a different sandwich altogether and it would not be North Shore roast beef! Personally I like the Harrison's or Nick's much better than Kelly's , and i am aware there are many other places on the North Shore that have great sandwiches as well. I get mine with sauce, nothing else, and on an onion roll. a lot of people do cheese, mayo etc, Plus I'm not too sure of that lettuce on the sandwich in the picture, have not seen that Cheers KB

I hate to offend anyone but the reddish oozy stuff looks like blood thickened with cornstarch to me.............I think it is ugly.

The beef seems rather thickly cut....unless the beef is super super tender I'd expect this to be a very chewy sandwich.....

That picture does not do the sandwich justice, the sauce is delicious and I wish I could find some to keep at home! On the contrary, it is very thinly cut,(or usually is at Harrisons or Nicks) I think that picture is kind of misleading. The meat is very ,very , very tender, thin cut and not chewy at all. I hate chewy meat. Like I said I am not a big red meat fan but these are really good, my family and friends are amazed that I eat them becasue they all know how I really do not care much for red meat. Cheers KB

That picture takes me back about 20 years to Rielly's Roast Beef on the corner of Brighton and Brookline. Many's the night on the town that ended there in the wee hours. Top

OH MY GOD!!! Despite the "blood" Kelly's sandwiches are tender, moist, and delicious all the time! I live in the Philippines and there is nothing like this anywhere. Grew up in Massachusetts and can attest that both Kelly's and Nick's are consistantly great day or night. Just looking at the picture causes my mouth to water.
