I never understood the objecton to ketchup on anything. I use all kinds of condiments on dogs and burgers, but my favorite on dogs is bacon, ketchup and hot sauce. Why would anyone try to tell me what I should eat? As for Chicago, who else puts celery salt, tomatoes and pickles on a hot dog? Disgusting...Buy some ketchup.

I was eating hot dogs yesterday at a cookout, and one of em I put ketchup on. I don't like people that say you CAN'T do something, thats negative. I prefer people that say you CAN do something...

I'm all about the ketchup on a hot dog. I just prefer ketchup over mustard.

My new hot dog invention is something I have named "Roadfooder's Nightmare"; It's is a cheep jumbo 8 to a pound dog on a lightly toasted slice of white bread, W/ ketchup down one side, and mayo down the other. I have now served this dog to over a dozen young hot dog munchers. They were a BIG hit. I Texanize mine w/ pickled nacho sliced jalapenos walking down the middle. A few of the adventuresome older kids tried the Texanized dogs and liked em. Are ya feelin brave? Try one. Joe

Fatty, let us know. I can tell you are an adventuresome eater. I have a brother who is what I call a "scared eater". He won't try anything new. My other brother is like me. He will eat anything that dosen't eat him first. A toasted bun is OK to use. The kids just prefer the bread. More meat and less bready stuff. Lightly toasted is so it bends w/o breaking. Joe

I kept hinting for someone else to bring up this thread but nooo. Yall were skeerd! My bro, who I mentioned above, and his wife and two kids, are in town for a visit. He is a Marine Cornell, and pilot, who just got back from Iraq... and has eaten all over the world. He claims to have had Mongolian BBQ, with Mongolians, in Mongolia. Just throw some meat, cabbage, and who knows what else, on an upside down shield, over an open fire, and whalaaa. I plan to test out the "Roadfooders Nightmare" on my brother and his family. I'll be back with the responses, I hope! Joe

I won't confess to being any sort of expert on hot dogs, but I like mine one of two ways: either cheese and mustard or chili and cheese (and ideally onions). I'm not a ketchup fan, though. Just for fun, I thought I'd try some at BK the other day, and I really don't get the appeal. (On another note, I think the best thing I ever had on fries was horseradish sauce, but then I'm not a potato/fry fan, either.)

Those look great Don! Mac, I like horseradish sauce on almost anything. That sauce on a good Boars Head dog might be good? My Bro's wife believes in healthy eating. Nothing wrong with that! I might do a "Roadfooder's Mega Nightmare" Jenny O turkey dogs, on whole wheat buns, with low fat ketchup and mayo. I'm havin jalapenos on mine though. Joe

Joe, weird! It looks like a mixture of mustard and ketchup... but I am not sure. I did not get to fix those Roadfooders Nightmare dogs, maybe for the 4th. ? Joe

What can I say, I'm bored. I hope this will at least flush out PapaJoe8. That Bay Corn harvest should be over by now. I can't believe an important subject like this is in the Miscellaneous - Off Topic & "Lighter Fare"

whether or not I put ketchup or mustard on my hot dog depends on my other toppings. If I get a cheesedog with relish I go ketchup. If I get a dog with kraut I go with mustard. chili dog, the chili is all i need

If people want to put ketchup on their hot dog, that's their business. But if they put ketchup on MY hot dog, I would refuse to eat it.

Happy Thanksgiving all! Sorry to have been missing so much. Joe was right. This did flush me out. And, page 8 did give me a laugh. And yes, the Bay Corn harvest is done at last. It was a bumper crop this year. And, why this thread was moved from the hot dog section has always been a mystery to me. Don, that Reuben Dog looks great! Russ's turkey dog recipe on page 8 gave me an idea for some Thanksgiving snacks... chopped up turkey dogs in Russ's sauce, speared w/ a toothpik. Oh, maybe a sliced jalapeno on some? I was going to make some Buffalo Style Bay Corn but this recipe has Bay Corn, hmmm? Joe

Here is a recipe that my family has enjoyed for years. 1 pack of hot dogs. Cut the hot dogs into medallions and fry them, until they are all nice and browned. then, add a bottle of ketchup and stir, until hot! Serve in a bowl with a spoon; no need to dilute that ketchupy hot doggy goodness with bread, or buns. Lemonade, preferably Crystal Light, is a good accompaniment. ENJOY!
