What sandwiches would you put in your child's lunch box or remember in yours...my favorite was when my mom lovingly fixed a Carl Buddig shaved beef on white Wonder Bread with mayo and lettuce. Mmmmm BKK

Can't pack it, but this was my favorite as a kid my Mom made for us at lunch all the time on weekends and snow days.

Soft cook 1 slice bacon, cut into 10-12-ish pieces
Lightly toast 2 slices white bread, lay them on a cookie sheet.
Lay a slice of american cheese on it.
    Apply 5-6 dots of ketchup.
Lay a piece of bacon in each dot of ketchup.
Broil a few min until cheese slightly browns, the ketchup slightly carmalizes.

It sounds odd, but as a kid, it tasted wonderful and we begged for it. I make it for my kids now and they beg for it. To mix it up every now and then I replace the bacon with pieces of pepperoni, canadian bacon, leftover ham, spam pieces, prosciutto.

It's basically a 5 min pseudo-pizza from common fridge fare.

I'm sure that would work equally well, and possibly better to adult tastes.

Like I said, it sounds odd, but the bacon/ketchup combo after broiling tastes better than it sounds.

It was the 60's. Who knows what Mom was smokin.

as a kid I was big on Ham and Cheese with mayo sandwiches, tuna fish, pb&J, lebanon bologna sandwiches, and salami sandwiches. Or if I made it myself I'd just take whatever cold cuts we had then throw them all together on a roll/bread with mayo.

My dad used to sometimes pack me cream cheese and jelly sandwiches, but I never liked those. He just thought I did because he liked them

Oh and meatloaf sandwiches with ketchup if we had meatloaf the night before

My mom made something similar. She would lay the Wonder bread slices on a cookie tray, add a slice or two of yellow plastic wrapped cheese, top with slice of tomato, onion rings, bacon and bake/broil 'til bacon done and onions somewhere between wilted and charred.

Today, I toast the bread first, use a good qualty cheese and precook the bacon (drippings saved for other uses), top with chopped green, yellow or red onion, and finish it off a few minutes in the over. it's a perfect open faced sandwich. It can be made ahead, and gently 'nuked elsewhere.

              Yummmmmm

My mom used to send tuna salad with me in elementary school... which earned me the nickname "Tuna Debbie" from some of the class clowns (my given name is Debra, though I don't go by it.) Thanks, Mom!

We also did bologna, pb&j, ham & cheese... the usuals.

We also had one of those camping pie makers.

You butter up two pieces of bread, put some combo in the center, and toast it on the burner. Mom let me do aall kinds of stuff in it for my lunch the next day. Peanut butter and bacon, salami and cheese, corn beef-kraut-swiss were favorite combo's.

Kid sandwiches: Take one ornery punk urchin (I have two from which to choose) put him/her between some nice whole-grain slices of bread, and slowly grill up in your favorite skillet. No more backtalk, and a good meal. Tastes a little like chicken...

Peanut butter. If it gets warm, then no harm.

I grew up on Wonder bread. Mom wouldn't allow any substitution. Now with our 5yr old, the tradition has been reborn....anyone else go back to those early childhood traditions?

Peanut Butter & Banana on Wonder Bread. Peanut Butter & Strawberry Jam on Wonder Bread. I do not know a kitchen that was not stocked with Wonder Bread.

My favorite was a grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwich. My sister always wanted a grilled cheese, but I wasn't big on cheese back then so mom would fix me that instead. Haven't thought about that in a while, and now I may just have to run to the store tomorrow and get some jelly.

never had a grilled PBJ...interesting. Mom also made terrific BLTs. Her secret was to sprinkle Lawry's seasoned salt on the mayo for a little extra zing. On toasted Wonder of course...

I never had a lunch box, that I took to school.

Since I lived 100 feet from the school, I went home for lunch. My Nanny made me ham & cheese, or BLT. In high school I spent my lunch money on cigarettes.

We would get, Just Homemade jelly sammies on homemade bread, during our 2 year stay in Canada. And 4 cents to buy milk. Mom was going through a frugal phase, plus her MOM died during that time, and it was tough. Later, We got to buy lunch.

Ok now. Just a phase. The jelly was good, very good.

For a few years, my son's favorite sandwich was a toss up between ham, pickle, processed cheese and bread (no condiments) and ham, shredded cheese and a flour tortilla, to roll up himself.

At 11, his favorite is now an italian-style sandwich: ham, pepperoni, genoa salami, lettuce, tomato, pickles, banana peppers and italian bread. Still no condiments though. Not sure where he came from....I've been a life-long mustard lover, and his father is a life-long mayo lover

                                                      bread
                                                      always homemade
