Knoxville BBQ Experience Fri, 07/27/07 2:26 PM (permalink)
I just ate at M&M's Bar-b-que on Middlebrooke Road and thought I would share my experience. Today is the first time I have been there this year. Sadly the owner passed away and I was a little hesitant to return. I knew his wife was still running things but "things" often change.

To me this has been and after today, still is the best Bar-b-que available in Knoxville. The meat is cooked over direct heat and is obviously cooked low and slow. They used to cook over Kingsford charcoal and the only smoke the meat gets is from the fat drippings. While this does produce a considerable amount of smoke, personally I like a touch of hickory.

Pros:
They serve a quality sandwich that is moist and not greasy like Buddy's. For $4.00 I got a pulled pork sandwich with slaw that was so big I had to use a fork to eat it. I suggest asking for a mix sauce, 1/2 mild 1/2 spicey. I also like that they are in the middle of Knoxville and not a long drive from anywhere in the city.

Cons:
I do like a little hint of wood, but I can't complain that much.

Previously I have had their chicken wings, ribs, pig sandwich (ground pork patty), and Smoked Bologna. Since I haven't been there in so long I will only comment on the sandwich I had today, however all of those things were great in the past.

M&M's is as good today as they were when they opened. And unless Sarge's wants to reopen, they will continue to have my business.

There is also a new Bar-b-que restaurant on Weisgarber that I tried once but want to try again before I review it.

Hey Tennessee Trash, why don't you take a break from eating those celery stalks and try M&M's. I expect colorful analogies in the future.

Ya'll are demanding. No pictures today but I could post some from the 1,500 mile Bar-b-Que eating extravaganza I went on in June.

Utvols: Thanks for sharing the info about M & M's on Middlebrook. I have passed it several times but I never did stop.

Good luck on your 1500 mile BBQ adventure.

I will stop the next time I am on Middlebrook pike. I have a friend who owns a liquor store next door so that gives me a reason to be in the area.
