I do like the open-faced "Old Country", fruit-filled versions best of all.

Sugarland, If your still around??? I love the Kolache's you are talking about and have been getting then since I was a child.  If you happen to get down on I 80 Morris exit 112 at the TA Truck Stop. R Place is the restaurant inside, and has a bakery and they make them. If you call and make a order about a week before your going to be going by. They well have them ready for you. They also have Real Oatmeal Cream Cookies, Strawberry Pillows, Cream Puffs, Cream Horns, Big Cupcakes, Cookies, Strudels, Brownies, Turtles, Homemade Candies, Fresh Breads, and so much more! Very well worth a trip. Every time I'm in the area, I stop by for a treat! And I always make a order to pick up and take home at Christmas!!!

I spent six months in Houston due to my wife's illness.  I stayed at the Marriott Residence Inn the entire time and enjoyed Kolaches at the Kolache Factory which was just down the street from my hotel.  I enjoyed them several times a week.  I always got there early and enjoyed them fresh.
They have many locations though.  That one just happened to be close to my hotel.
