We had one that opened almost next door to a dunkin donuts, a chip shot away. It lasted a little over a year, I never frequented either one of them, Kanes donut was a short drive away. Now thats a donut. Chow Jim

quote:Originally posted by Wistah KK opened several locations here in the Boston area to great fanfare...and they all (except maybe one) closed up within a year or so of opening. When KK first opened here (Boston area) a couple of years ago, the lines for the drive through were hundreds of cars long. That lasted about a month then the thrill was gone. I loved my first few trips but it really is a limited product and once they cool off, are pretty scary. DD's business model calls for a much wider range of offerings, with donuts being a somewhat minor attraction and weird beverage concoctions being at the forefront. Their donuts are okay but not like what you find at a place like Anna's Handcut Donuts in West Roxbury, MA. Fred

KK's have gotten expensive. Dozen hots and a dozen assorted was almost twelve dollars in Salisbury, NC a few days ago.

They built a brand new Krispy Kreme in Appleton Wisconsin only to close it about a year later. I have never actually had one though you can get then in just about every gas station and grocery store here. I guess the Green Bay one makes all of them now.

I recently read somewhere, maybe here at RF for all I know, that the first KK store to open up here in Southern Calif has shut its doors. La Habra I believe it was. Good riddance.

The great problem w/ KK is they expanded w/ lies and deception. Sit at a counter in Winston Salem, Salisbury or any number of NC sites and the "hot ones" are WONDERFUL!!! I'm an old fart but could still eat a dozen w/o a thought. Coffee and a box please. They expanded so fast the quality fell as did the company. Sad but true.

I don't know how or why anyone could eat at a DD's. they don't care about quality, product consistancy or service. THEY JUST PLAIN SUCK. but people are sheep, they don't care, they just keep waiting in the drivethrough, even though it's faster to go inside to get the garbage they sell. KK has a lot better product & better people working there.

quote:Originally posted by V960 Many more will be closing. My wife went against my recommendations and bought interset in KK. Went up for a while and then fell through the floor. TOLD YOU SO!!! The Phoenix AZ franchise shut down a couple weeks ago. I bought their stock at $36 and sold it at $5! Those guys in NC should be Castrated before they hang them!

Interesting...I bought it at about six and sold it at a bit over forty. However the company has been ruined.

We were all excited when DD opened up here (North Jersey) in the early '70s and our local store became one of their largest grossing operations in the northeast. Bulldozed by DOT for a new highway ramp in the mid '80s, we soon forgot about them, not worth a 20 minute drive to the next DD. Sorry DD, most of us moved on. In the '90's, we all began hearing rumors of what some called the best doughnuts in the land, KK. Finally heard they opened a bakery in Scranton, PA on Moosic St. Well, that's not too far away, about 115 miles and two hours on the Interstate. I was not prepared for what can truly be described as a near "religious" food experience. How could a doughnut be so light, so sweet, so warm? It was not possible! Six downed in a flash! DD, good as they were, were not even in the same food group. Brought many home, some for Mom, who also became an instant convert. In her last few years, in her mid-eighties, every couple of months, she'd call and ask what was on the calendar for the next day and I knew what that meant! She thought it might be time for some doughnuts, involving a mini four hour plus road trip I could never say no too. And now that she is gone, those KK's taste even sweeter, if that is possible. The chain's management got greedy and made mistakes, like cold KK's in every convience store (still better than most store brands) or selling franchises like they were the hot doughnuts themselves, but that does not lessen the quality or experience. Long live Krispy Kreme!
