Krystal restaurant chain up for sale

The Krystal Co., which owns or franchises 364 stores in 11 states, said it has retained a investment firm to find a buyer for the Chattanooga-based restaurant chain. I wouldn't be surprised to see this place go under. I was pretty disappointed the last time I was in one a couple of months ago.

Krystal is owned by Port Royal Holdings, a private investment firm whose Principal is also CEO & Pres. of Jackson Hewitt Tax Service. He's a former Coca Cola Exec. Probably cleaned up the Balance Sheet and is now trying to peddle it. Classic Investor Business model---Buy it Cheap, Put some Lipstick on it and Sell it!

Krystal had an experimental, prototype "fast casual" store in Alpharetta GA. Called K Cafe, it was intended to compete with Panera and Atlanta Bread Co. It was reported on July 31 that moving trucks were cleaning it out. The website and Facebook page were deleted on August 2. If the chain's being put up for sale, it seems that somebody is tying up loose ends and cleaning house...!

I hope it doesn't become part of some conglomerate like A&W and Long John Silver's are!
