If you live in the South, you know Krystals. Still in business, but I miss their breakfasts. Not the quick breakfast they serve now, I'm referring to real breakfast. In the late 70's they serve fresh made waffles, had real orange juice, used real eggs, and even had fresh pies, not the prepackaged, frozen type like today. It could be eaten at a booth or on a stool at the counter. I worked overnights in the 70's and stopped at Krystal's every morning and had waffles for breakfast. Krystals went fast food and though the booths remained, the stools and seating at the counter went away. Curb service also disappeared, of course now a restaurant named Sonic does curb service (unfortunately their food is overpriced and lousy). The worst part is that in the changes Krystals made dropping the waffles and other well known breakfast items and taking it fast food became a big disappointment to me. I miss the waffles.

darheim, welcome to RF. Nice first post.

Growing up up north, I kind of have the same recollection of old days at White Castle. I remember my grandfather and dad heading to WC for coffee and b'fast at the counter ...

Too bad about that Krystal (Seems the neighborhood changed). But they just re-modeled my Krystal on Canton Hwy. so I don't think they'll close.

Had lunch there today, still taste it. I know that's going to happen but still cannot resist about once a month.

I use to like Krystals and I guess I still do but I have found that more than one really upsets my stomach. It also seems that something is gone from their taste?

I use to be able to slug down at least a half a dozen but no more. Two will keep me awake with Pepcid for several hours.

I think old age is demanding that my diet becomes more bland. Dadgum it.

I have noticed the same thing with White Castles.
