I've got some business in Glendora, California next week. Anybody know a good roadfood place to do a business lunch?

I usually stay on Sunset in West Hollywood and have some business downtown LA the next day. Any other suggestions for food in those areas?

Any hotel suggestions?

In Glendora, You'll want to go to "The Hat." Here is their website: http://www.thehat.com/

You'll also want to stop by "The Donut Man." They are known for having some of the best doughnuts in southern California. They are on the same street as The Hat. Get the amazing strawberry doughnut if they have them. They make fresh fruit doughnuts when the fruit is in season.

If you like to stay on Sunset in West Hollywood why not consider The Standard (they have a good restaurant open 24/7)? It is about two blocks east of La Cienega on Sunset. Oh, I just thought that maybe I misunderstood and you are looking for a recommendation for a hotel near Glendora?

Glendora is kind of far from Los Angeles so you might want to think about having your business lunch in Pasadena which is much closer. The road food type of places in both LA and Pasadena? I don't know if they are appropriate for business lunches. Here is where I would go for a business lunch: Yujean Kang's (excellent upscale chinese in a very nice setting); Il Fornaio (Italian in a nice setting); Cafe Bizou (Cal cuisine again in nice setting); Nonya (excellent Asian); and my former boss used to go to Akira Maison (Asian/French fusion) all the time for bus. lunches but I have never been there. The road food places that I like in Pasadena are: The Hat on Lake just north of the 210 (much better pastrami than at their Alhambra branch); Pie & Burger (need I say more?); Kuala Lumpur (excellent Malaysian food - this is a Jonathan Gold favorite!); In 'n Out Burger (drive-through). Are you adventerous? In Arcadia (close to Glendora) there is a branch of a Taiwanese dumpling restaurant that is out of this world; very simple food but excellent. Also, one of the best doughnut shops in the state is in Glendora. I don't remember the name of it or where it is but everyone in Glendora knows about it so just ask.

A great road food type place in West Hollywood is Duke's Coffee Shop. They serve fabulous breakfasts! Also, Irv's burgers, if it is still open, is supposed to be good. There are also so many great non roadfood type places in that area; one of my favorites is Lucques.

In downtown LA, Phillipe's is good, and if you are looking for the best pastrami sandwich in the world go to Langer's. For a business lunch I would go to Kendall's Brasserie or Pinot Cafe at the library.

There are so many restaurants in downtown and the San Gabriel Valley, so if you are looking for anything in particular, or need addresses, let me know.

Actually the people I'm having lunch with are in Glendora. My experience is you can't get a car full of people to agree to go very far.

I have no need to bring people to fancy places -- just because they are fancy ... good food and clean settings beats chain food in chains everyday.

I am inclined to stay in LA vs. Glendora ... I've never been to Glendora and, if it is a decent place, I'm up for anything. I usually resort to the Hyatt on Sunset and can't afford the Chateau. (I also have this thing: I never stay anyplace where the window doesn't open to at least a crack of outside air. That sometime limits me.)

          So far, so good. Thanks.

I think I'm a little too square for The Standard.

ericats, is Kendall's Brasserie the restaurant down below the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion? My partner and I lunched there before the opera last month, and it was just delicious and the service great.

Not businessman lunch stuff, but if you like local hole-in-the-walls, I did this little site: http://home.pacbell.net/dagravy/html/index1.html.

                GREAT ADVICE EVERYONE ...

GLENDORA: Who knew thery'd be two.
The Donut Man: Excellent! I am not a big sweets guy -- but the crueller made for a perfect follow up to the Pastrami Dip at The Hat.

LA: Langer's: Great deli -- could only get there for breakfast.
Zankou Chicken: Very good. I had chicken, but the other options looked great.
Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles was a tremendous (and unique) treat.

My old standards: Stopped by House of Blues, an old time favorite of mine, the service was so bad (in other words, we didn't get waited on) we left without ordering anything. Too bad! John O'Groats for breakfast: Still the best in the US!

I'll be back in 2 weeks (only in the Pomona area) ... Hope to try more of the others. Anyplace great in Pomona anyone?

Hotel-wise: Stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott in Baldwin Park (C-) ... no hot water for two days? ... the only rooms with widows that open to outside air are on the smoking floor. (Courtyards are usually much better.)

In LA, stayed at the soon-to-be-named-something-else, Summerfield Suites in West Hollywood. It is under construction, but will be a nice property. I only encountered one day-shift staff member who could understand that it is a bad idea to cover the only sign where the name of the hotel is shown outside with a temporary "Sorry for the Construction" sign. (That caused three unnecessary trips around the block looking for the place.) Rooms were very nice.

Thanks for posting the places that you went to; I'm glad that you liked your choices! I'm actually jelous because I love all of those places and haven't been for a while!

I've never been to The Hat in Glendora since I usually go to the one in Pasadena (my CPA's office is across the street and I'm meeting him for lunch on Weds so hopefully we'll go there.) Besides their pastrami I also like their chili cheese dogs.

Did you get to try the pastrami at Langer's (pastrami and eggs?) Their pastrami is one of the best in the world.

Every city should have a Zankou Chicken!

John O'Groats is perfect but if you haven't tried Duke's I highly recommend it. It is one of my favorite breakfast places and it is on the Strip near where you stay.

michaelgemmell: Kendall's is the place underneath the Chandler. I go to many events at the Music Center so I eat there, as well as the outdoor grill, often.
