Is this company for real?  I just did it too and got a lot cheaper quote than my insurance gave me.  Is this coverage for a year or is it a monthly fee, it doesn't say?  Does anyone else on this site use this company?

I work for DreamMaker Hot Dog Carts, and Josh approached us to refer cart owners to him.  We have just begun giving out his information.  I know that one of our local customers got a quote from him that was very comparable to a local agent that we had previously been referring vendors to.

I would also love to hear about personal experiences from vendors using this insurance company.

If ya think about it, any insurance broker with an underwriter can set up a website specific to any industry. Hot Dogs, Dog Walking, Dog Grooming, etc. Take yer $100 brokers fee and be done with it.
Not saying he's not legit or scamming, actually pretty smart if he is legit.
Smarter yet would be to put up a banner ad on this site. Rake it in. Wish I'd thought of it.

If I were you I would go to an established broker like the one you have your auto or home owners insurance through. They will ask you what your yearly income might be and they will write a policy accordingly. I think mine is about $40 a month for 1,000.000 policy. and about $85 a year for coverage on the cart.

Some local vendors have told me that their established broker for other services would not write them a policy for their hot dog cart, so this is a good option for those who have trouble.

A local property & casualty agent is typically an excellent resource for this.

I just got a quote from a local broker that was $75.00 more than this company. The underwriter was the same (Mt. Vernon). I wonder if I can go directly to the underwriter and save on commission.

I too had checked Josh out a few months ago - he was great and the policy runs for one year from the time you start it up - there is no additional charges for additional insureds either.  Other companies have all policies starting a certain month and if you fall b4 that date then there was an additional cost (i.e. all policies renewed in June @ $550...starting up in April would have cost $330 for April/May and then the $550 for June-May) plus $75 for each additional insured!  I had done so much research and my auto policy agent had no idea where to turn to get coverage.  Josh is great and they write the policy through U.S. Liability Insurance which is an A++ rated company.  It takes 1-1-1/2 days to get the policy.  It was tough for me being in MA a lot of the companies do not even offer coverage here.  Good luck!

Is this coverage just for the liability or do they cover the cart for any damage to it?  My insurance company said they could do the liability, but not the cart, that is when they turned me onto someone else through them and they wouldn't do the cart without the vehicle, which I think is really expensive.  My insurance company said they could add $150 per six months to my regular vehicle insurance and mark it as business vehicle, but I need someone to cover the cart in case of accidents/damage.

they will cover the cart too, but it is more $$$ and personally if the cart is damaged after a few years what you would have spent on insurance you could almost buy a new cart.

I'm not that worried about that, but what if it comes loose or something and hit someone or another vehicle?

that is when your car insurance picks up - it was expplained to me that your vehicle insurance covers any damage done to another vehicle/person when being towed by the vehicle, but will not cover damage to the cart - cart damage would be additional expense.

Thanks Salty Dog.  I'll have to discuss that with my insurance company.  I got a quote from Josh on the cart itself and it was $400 a year.  He said if it was $1,000-2000 he wouldn't advise it but mine was $3,000 and he said that is when he would advise getting coverage.  Still tossing it around if I am going to cover the it or not.

Sorry for the delayed response having issues with posting on this site - finally got it!  Anyways, be sure to confirm with Josh that there is no additional charges for your state...they hit me with an additional $100 so it was $590, but it is not reflected in the bill which was $490, but it did come out of my account...he said that it was additional amount due to the fact I am in MA.  I have to call him tomorrow to request for an invoice reflecting the full amount otherwise my accountant is going to raise her eyebrows at the cost vs invoice.

I know this conversation is probably dead, but there is some important info that was left out here. To preface my comments, I work for an insurance company that has a group policy for mobile food vendors including hot dog vendors. The benefit of going through a program like the above mentioned is they can cut the costs substantially. Basically, these companies write one policy for a certain industry and sell them at a discounted rate. This means that rather than working with a local agent, a broker, an underwriter, and the carrier company, you are getting it from one place who has already done all the work. This means it is much less expensive for you because you aren't paying everyone and their grandma. Our website is Fliprogram.com and we have established a great program that is the least expensive you will find with great coverage. Email us if you have more questions!

Friends at "FLIP," I have a $299 dollar policy that is supposed to cover any thing at a location event etc. Right FLIP INS? I can't remember the amounts. Can you specify the amounts here for me Flip Man?

I think your program does not cover the cart while it is being towed, so I had to have my auto insurance provider ad a rider to my auto insurance to cover my cart while being towed or if I'm parked at a Walmart or someplace such, if it is stolen off of the back of my vehicle! Correct? Please elaborate on anything I may be leaving out. Thanks.

I think that if you read your policy, it doesnt cover you for everything et.al..  It is a liability policy for 2 mil per occurence.  It doesnt cover towing etc or other on the road activities.  Ive got it, and Im satisfied with it, your automobile insurance should be able to provide you with coverage should your cart take off on the road.
