Las Vegas, where are the best cheap eats, locals only, buffets too? Wed, 09/1/10 3:18 AM (permalink)
We are going to the Interbike show in late Sep, will be there for two days only, where should we eat?  We want relatively cheap.  No fancy jacket and tie places.  Local places, dives, etc.  Preferable less than $10 bucks per person.  We like everything, bbq, sandwiches, ethnic food, anything.

Also what buffets you guys like?  Last time in LV (2008) we had Wynn, Bellagio, Rio, Planet Hollywood, Paris, still thought Rio was the best for food vs cost (intl buffet, not seafood buffet).  Any suggestions?

Heard lots about Lotus of Siam, worth a trip?
Thanks!

Oh yeah, obviously buffets are more than $10, but which ones do you guys think is worth it?

This is a previous post of mine below-

These are all local places that are off the strip.

Paymon’s Mediterranean Cafe & Hookah Lounge for Middle Eastern food.
I have only been to the location on Maryland parkway just off the strip. This is a must visit place for us when we go to Vegas. Some trips we have gone there twice! Start off with any of the cold dips Hummus, Baba Gonash, Yogurt or Lebni.  The Lentil soup is very good. Greek salad is a great choice. I could eat just the appetizers and make it a meal. But I always order and entrée. The combination plate is very good and gives you a sample of most of the dips. We have had Broiled Kabobs the lamb being my favorite. tandori chicken, Kibbe, Moussaka, spanakopita and Fesenjan. All great! Here is the Fesenjan description from their menu:
This Persian delicacy combines boneless chicken breast slowly cooked with crushed walnuts in a tangy semi-sweet pomegranate sauce. Served with Basmati rice.
I am getting hungry just typing this and Vegas is 1250 miles away from me

        Cafe Heidelberg for German food. 610 E. Sahara #2 • 702-731-5310
Any of the soups, sausages and the wienerschnitzel. Homemade apple strudel for dessert. Wash it all down with a German beer. A very local place with a German market and German bar adjoining. I couldn’t find their own website. Some pictures and the menu here-

        Original Pancake House for breakfast.
It is a chain a very roadfood worthy chain. My favorite here is the homemade corned beef hash. Most people come in for the oven baked apple pancakes which are huge!

Two places I loved were the Peppermill on the Strip,  and Mamacitas on Freemont.

Peppermill is a classic that has been there forever and you've likely seen it in several movies.  Big food, big drinks and cocktail waitresses in slinky black dresses.

Mamacitas was a short walk from the Freemont Street experience and was one of the best Cuban/Mexican meals I've ever had.

Thank you so much for the Rio buffet heads up. I'm on a tight budget as well. I'll be travelling to Vegas soon & am excited about looking into Rio. Lodging wise may I recommend, 'Americana-5 Inn & Suites. Specifically the south location. I've stayed @ many low cost hotels & find this motel to be the most bang for the buck.

Welcome to Roadfood Ilove! I hope you have a great trip!

Foodb gives good advice about all tha Vegas stuff here!

                      A few things I have mentioned before;

The all beef Chicago Dog, a buck or so, from a cart at the Gold Coast sports book. Only during the day. I can make a meal of those.

The Shrimp Cocktail (99c) at the Golden Gate downtown. Don't miss the pictures of long gone Old Vegas on the wall. Add some Tabasco and I can make a meal of them. Three and I'm full.

NY style pizza at New York New York. It's downstairs across from the dueling piano bar. A few slices of that Pizza, and a few beers at tha piano bar, and the next day you will swear you went to NY last nite.

Don't forget the Mongolian BBQ if you do the Rio buffet. There is always a line but well worth a short wait! I can make a meal of that.

If you drink cheep wine Battista's Hole in the Wall. is wort the trip. It's just a red sauce joint but the wine is free and the experience is great! I have friends who make this a MUST GO on their trips. Not for Italian food purists though. After enough wine you will swear the food was great. :~)

And Oh... find those penny slots that pay 9 lines. Only bet 1c per line. You might win but for sure you wont loose allot. They are fun and... some have dancing monkeys!

I just scored a sweet hotwire deal.  A four star hotel for $39 a night, it turned out to be the LV hilton, I've stayed there before, not too bad, great for the price, and it's near the convention center.  Try hotwire if you're not too picky about which hotel you're staying at.

I have dined at Nikki Beach Club's Sterling Brunch and have a huge prime rib dinner during trips to Vegas for the last years.

How did the trip go .
We always visit Arizona Charlies Decatur for the $3.99 steak and Eggs but you need a rent a car for sure unless staying  there .

I foudn a good AYCE sushi place off the strip (Sushi Mon) that was very good quality and made to order...not a buffet type thing...you actually order any of the rolls and/or sushi items off the menu.  I think sashimi had a small upcharge.

The USA Today newspaper last month stated that the buffet at, 'Station Casino' is the best buffet deal in the state. Now they didn't say how good (ie tasty) it was but $5 for unlimited breakfast is worth an investigation. The lunch & dinner buffet was kind too. I've never been but will certainly check it out next time I'm there. It can't possibly be worst that Circus Circus. I'm very budget minded as well after doing much research I always stay @ Americana - 5 Inn & Suites specifically the south location. Hope this helps. Have a fun & safe trip. My Overall my fav buffet is The Bellagio

Well, I m a Las Vegas local. Yesterday I went to a new Greek restaurant and ordered my food at the cashier. for a reasonable, I restaurant in Las Vegas for a group of approximately 35 people. I'd be looking to spend around 40 per person on food.
