Latest Poll - on Buffalo- Rochester tour foods

I am sorry  but I think this is a very silly poll.  How many people went  on the tour?  How many people that  were not on tour have ever eaten at these places?  I lived in Central New York for quite a few years so know all these places.  I doublt that  many others do  so how can one vote?  Or if they do vote, it would seem like they are just picking what sounds good to them......it does not make much sense  to me.  To me  the results of  this poll would not indicate anything.

That's the idea.  That's why we say "There or Not."  Everyone can choose what WAS best, if they were there, or what SOUNDS best, if they were not.

The polls are there just for fun.  They're not anything scientific.  Doesn't seem to be a problem to me.

I just skipped it, because most of the items are not named descriptively enough for someone who has never heard of them or been there to even begin to guess what might be good or not.

Did I miss something?  It looks to me like the current poll is on donuts?  Was this changed?

The other poll only lasted a day.... Maybe they decided it was "a very silly poll."

We changed the poll.  Didn't seem appropriate to pit the different restaurants that were kind enough to participate in the Roadfood tour against one another.

The bolding was mine.  I don't mean to debate semantics, but I can see the places that were "kind enough" to comp folks' meals (except our beloved red-headed step-child, mr chips!), but I would think that the exposure that the other places receive for participating in the event would generate more than enough continuing interest in their business that they are not doing this out of "kindness."  Are they turning away other business to accommodate the tour group?  I guess I equate "kindness" with doing something out of the ordinary - or doing something that would otherwise put you out.  I see their participation as certainly mutually beneficial.

    TTM-
I can tell you that Anchor Bar set aside an entire room for us, despite the fact that it was a Sunday afternoon and it is a popular location for watching NFL football.

Yes, the tour was mutually beneficial to Roadfood and the restaurants.  But many of the places went out of their way to accommodate us: comping our meals, putting on extra meat carvers, opening early especially for us, giving us free beer, doing a chicken barbecue especially for us...  I wouldn't read too much into my use of the word "kind."  Yes, there were business arrangements, but it's also more than that.

    Fair enough.

I also think that folks can get a sense of which places were bigger hits than others (though there doesn't seem to be a true "dog" in the bunch...other than those who went off on their own!) from the individual threads on the trip.

I loved all the places we stopped on the tour and almost all the other places recommended by the books or website. I will say that the beef on weck at Schwabl's was one of the two most memorable meals I have ever eaten.
