Lawd, Lawd! Feed me in East Texas!

My new job means traveling to just about every corner and wee town in East Texas--which as you can see if you have RF in your glove box, is a Road Food WASTELAND. Where are the meat and 3s? Where is the homemade pie? Where are the roadside BBQ joints? Where can you get a decent plate of catfish or some crawdads in season? What local bakeries produce heavenly kolaches east of West? There's just got to be chicken and gravy. I refuse to believe savvy immigrants haven't opened up a cafe featuring a little bit of back home in a rundown strip mall somewhere in the Piney Woods....

Do you know these parts? I'd sure be grateful for a little guidance.

You could start with Fugler's outside Marshall, TX and try their Bubba Burger. This one is their two pattie version. The patties are 3/4 pounds each. They also serve a single and a triple.

Not sure what you consider East Texas, My perspective has changed since our last trip thru the area a couple of years ago...
But Listed in the Restaurant File on this site...Have you checked the Texas List???... is the Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church and BBQ Stand in HUNTSVILLE. These good folks have demonstrated their skills, both BBQ and Soul-saving on every major Foodie-travel TV show  broadcast in the past couple of years.  GO, EAT, you won't regret it.

In addition to Davydd's recommendation of fuglers in Marshall, Neely's on Grand is also good. In Jefferson Josephs Riverport BBQ is excellent. In Avinger Five D Steak is really good. In Longview Carters BBq and Unc's BBQ are very good. There are many more good choices in northeast Texas if you have a specific town in mind.
