LeBec Fin vs. Quizno's Mon, 05/3/04 9:05 AM (permalink)
Here's a link to an article from Sunday (5/2) Philly Inquirer. For those of you who aren't familiar with the area, Walnut Street's Rittenhouse Row is home to Philly's upscale dining and shopping establishments. Tiffany's, Ralph Lauren, and two restaurants from legendary restauranteur Georges Perrier.

Seems there's a bit of a stink going on because -- gasp! -- a fast food chain is going into one of the vacant storefronts on the row.

LOL... As far as I know, LBF has neither a pepper bar nor singing mascots!

A friend of mine tells me that at Le Bec Fin they give you a new fork everytime you take a bite of something. She seemed serious. I find that ridiculous and would eventually be thrown out for laughing. Love that "fine dining"!

They dont give you a new fork everytime you take a bite. You're right, that is ridiculous.

having a Quiznos there is definitely an aesthetic annoyance. According to the article, it is zoned for eat in only. Snobbery or not, if the chains can be kept out and good independent joints can move in, then it is a good thing.

As Renfrew pointed out, that's a complete fabrication. Although I have been known to use a different napkin after every bite of a Jim's cheesesteak.

Le Bec Fin is absolutely one of my favorite restaurants I've ever been to, the lack of silverware changes notwithstanding.

I remember a fine restaurant in Manila. During the Vietnam war, I and several friends went there for dinner one night. We had more waiters than diners. Our wine glasses would be refilled after every sip. You can imagine how a bunch of drunk sailors kept them jumping!
