Lettuce is Freezing

the last 2 heads of lettuce we bought is freezing in the refrigerator.
this is the first time I've noticed this in the last couple years.
we  keep the refrigerator at 38 degrees and have kept the heads in either a Tupperware lettuce container or a zip lock bag.
they froze in both to the point of wilting and the leaves becoming transparent with ice forming between the leaves.
is anybody else having this problem?
is there anythingyou can do to prevent this?
turning up the temp in the frig is not an option.

Your problem may be where in your refrigerator you keep the lettuce.  In mine, the lower area (nearest the bottom drawer freezer) get much colder than other parts.

wheregreggets is on to something. The upper level is the warmest part of the fridge. (Heat rises) Also keeping it towards the front near the door could help. It is warmer then the back of the fridge.  Where in the fridge do you get the 38 degree reading? It's clear that temperatures are lower then that if the lettuce is forming ice crystals.  If moving the lettuce doesn't help then go with the first suggestion and call the appliance doctor.

Absolutey-you have a "spot" that freezes things. Move your lettuce!

Gregeats IS on  to something, but we have a side by side not a bottom mount freezer. BUT, I keep my thermometer on the Top shelf. I just moved the thermometer to the bottom shelf where we keep the lettuce.
like I said, it hasn't happened in the last couple years.
this is winter and the temperature in the house sometimes  does drop into the lower 60's before we have to turn the heat on so the refrigerator isn't working that hard and it will stay colder.

We were having the same problem, even thin sliced ham was freezing. Amana with a bottom freezer. We turned the dial in the fridge to warmer, but it didn't noticeably help. I went online to see what I could find out regarding trouble shooting, factory manual etc.

What I found out is that the dial in the fridge compartment was just a damper that allowed less or more air from the freezer compartment into the fridge. I also found out that there is a temperature control in the freezer compartment. We adjusted that and the problem seems to be solved.

after leaving the thermometer on where we keep the lettuce for 24 hrs. the temperature was 34 degrees.
the top shelf was 38 degrees.
so I think that explains why the lettuce was freezing.
