Yes, Lexington #1 is the best place to go for 'cue but be sure to call them before you pull up. They were closed this past weekend (how dare they!) when I wanted a fix. They close for vacation and to do any needed repairs and cleaning. I went to The Barbecue Center instead and found their bbq very good indeed! Not quite up there with #1, but very good. They also have bbq slaw and slightly skinnier hushpuppies, plus, they sell ice cream. I think the Center is on Main Street. I would go back there again if #1 was closed.

#1 is great, never got to the Center, but we also liked Cook's - a bit out of town, but not hard to find, and besides very nice pulled pork we especially liked their very small hushpuppies. Cheers, John

It's hard for a pulled pork fan to admit it, but I have never had better barbecue than what they serve at Lexington Barbecue(Monks). I tried another place in Lexington and it was not nearly as good as Monks. Their mix of inside and outside meat is perfect. Some North Carolina BBQ is too finely chopped for my taste, but not Monks.

The Barbecue Center offered "coarse" chop as well as the regular fine chop. It was a slightly bigger coarse chop than I was expecting, but easy to separate with a fork or pick up with your fingers. It may be that other Lexington BBQ joints also offer "coarse" chop. I only like the fine chop if it's on a sandwich.

In Lexington NC, there's only one place to go, and that, IMHO, is Lexington #1 ( or Honey Monk's, as it's known to the locals. ) Great food! Of course, if it's Sunday, you're out of luck. Anyone know of a BBQ place in Lexington that's currently open on Sundays?

While I have never eaten there, my cousin in Greensboro swears by Lexington #1....and she knows her barbeque.
