Do you like this nasty smelling cheese, I do, it's strong but the more times I've had it, the more I like it!

I love limburger cheese. I love it on crackers, I love it as a sandwich on rye bread with a slice of onion, I love it anyway I can get it. I've been eating limburger since I was a little boy and to this day I am amazed each time at the creaminess and mild taste despite its odiferous nature. Another strong-smelling cheese I loved for years, which no longer exists because of a fire some 20 years ago that burned down the Ohio factory where it was made, was Liederkranz. EDIT: I forgot to mention that my grandson decided one day to make himself a sandwich and he put a few slices of limburger on rye with some Dijon mustard, and then added some thin-sliced Boars Head Cajun-style turkey and the sliced onion. He proclaimed it to be wonderful. I had to try it. Darned if he wasn't right on target with his evaluation.

I love limburger, and can walk up to my local German meat store and buy it. I also like bierkase, while not as pungent as limburger, has a great" stink" to it.Its basically very aged brick. But am happy to hear about the return of Liederkranz. I will be on the lookout... Please let us know your thoughts on it, Mr. Hoffman, when you receive your order.

I want to try Limburger, but I don't want to waste an entire package to try it... if I don't like it. My dad once fired one of his employees because he was caught stealing. A week later somehow Limburger was smeared on the manifold of my father's car. That thing smelled for over a year.

You can get Liederkranz locally on Long Island at the Forest Pork Store in Huntington. I've seen it in a few other stores but it has been kind of hit & miss.

The stinkier the cheese the better! I love my Mom's story of her mother being sent into town to bring home some limburger. She was carrying it in a covered tin. When she got home her father lifted the lid and my grandmother swore she saw it moving! Her father poured a glass of beer over it and then spread it on bread. Don't know if that story is true but I always think of it while enjoying some nice ripe Limburger on rye bread.

Last Saturday I paid a visit to Monroe Wisconsin, Wisconsin's cheese headquarters. It wouldn't have been a proper trip without a visit to Baumgartner's Tavern and Cheese Store. I had a limburger on rye with some German style salami and some thin slices of red onion. My mom and I dug in with gusto but one of our companions wasn't a fan. Hey, at least she tried it! (I gave away the Ande's mint that comes with)

That sandwich looks great. Nice touch with the mint. I don't think it will be enough though!

EdSails Then maybe all of you might enjoy this too...... http://eatingchina.com/articles/stinky-tofu.htm It's served at several Taiwanese restaurants in the LA/San Gabriel area. When Andrew Zimeran nearly retches on something, like he did with stinky tofu, I'll pass, but Ed, do you like it?

I once went to a noodle place in San Gabriel next to one of the stinky tofu places. I did read the menu in the window, but somehow stinky tofu didn't seem to be what I was craving. And I doubt it ever will...........
