We can always take the Sheryl Crow route and save the planet through using less toilet paper. This should go over like a... er.... turd in the punch bowl. Here's what Sheryl "Swamp Ass" Crow has to say: I propose a limitation be put on how many squares of toilet paper can be used in any one sitting. Now, I don't want to rob any law-abiding American of his or her God-given rights, but I think we are an industrious enough people that we can make it work with only one square per restroom visit, except, of course, on those pesky occasions where 2 to 3 could be required. When presenting this idea to my younger brother, whose judgment I trust implicitly, he proposed taking it one step further. I believe his quote was, "how bout just washing the one square out." http://tinyurl.com/2ajl3l Wingnut. Imagine what her undies look like.

Unable to be anything other than the grump that I am, as far as I'm concerned the so-called "Global Warming" is just another fantasy of the political left who will say anything, do anything and tell any lie as long as they can get control of what freedoms are left and strip people of them. As mentioned earlier all Live Earth did was allow phonies like Al Gore, Michael Moore and the sorry collection of actors, musicians and trendy snake oil salesmen to have a stage to preach their sorry lies. A pox on them all!!!

quote:Originally posted by enginecapt Argentina's having their coldest winter in 40 years. Just thought I'd mention it... London's Guardian reports on some inclement weather in South America: The Casa Rosada, the Argentinian president's "Pink House," verged on turning white overnight after Buenos Aires was blanketed in snow for the first time in nearly 90 years. Children threw snowballs while photographers tried to capture the falling flakes as a party atmosphere descended on the city. Crowds gathered at the Obelisk monument in central Buenos Aires, the traditional focal point for Argentinian celebrations and protests. "Despite all my years, this is the first time I've ever seen in snow in Buenos Aires," said Juana Benitez, an 82-year-old who joined children celebrating in the streets. Damn that global warming!

Why does this have to be a partisan issue? Just look at the facts and consider what we have done to the environment over the past 120 years.

Almost 8 years of this Bush Administration and you're accusing the left of playing fast and loose with our freedoms? All I can say to that is "Thank (insert deity here) for the ACLU".

Being this is "Roadfood" I really like the poultry references . So in honor of the little chicken who looked skyward in all confusing alarm, an honorable mention should be awarded! I nominate the Ostrich! For without whom we could not appreciate the benefits and healing property's of putting ones head in the sand.

It has been suggested that the cure would be worst than the disease. If we truly reduced our carbon footprint to reduce emissions it would be so drastic that we would plunge the world into a major depression. No politician is ever going to do that considering it probably would be impossible to do so anyway--reduce man's carbon footprint to reverse a global warming trend if man is truly responsible. If one wanted to take the time and add up the numbers it is a simple people population problem. Here are some basics for the United States alone not counting the third world that is emerging at a rapid rate toward our standards. Conventional wisdom of the charts say carbon emissions started accelerating about 1950. In 1950 the United States had a population of 150 million people. We have doubled. The average house has doubled in size from about 1,200 sf to 2,400 sf and the average occupants in each household is about half. The population has shifted dramatically to the south and southwest because of air conditioning which was practically non-existent in homes in 1950. Few people drove cars in 1950. Less than half the households on my block growing up in Indianapolis had cars. Now there is more than 2 cars per household on the average and people drive a lot farther to work than ever. 30 amp and 50 amp electrical services were the norm in 1950. Now 200 amps is the minimum in a house. I could go on and on with these kind of statistics and you might argue some of the finer points but what galls me is people that stand up say doing token things to reduce your carbon footprint will help. One such organization claimed a 50% reduction would do it. No way! Do the math. It is a population problem and now infrastructure problem plain and simple that is not going to reverse in any meaningful manner. Alternative energies? Another stupid boondoggle. Ethanol will hasten the problem. We are already seeing the effects of ethanol on food prices and the reduction of rain forests. And our government subsidizes this stupidity. Switchgrass instead of corn for ethanol? My god what economic sense does that make growing weeds? Where do you grow it? How do you harvest and transport it? Of course no one yet has figured out how to economically produce ethanol from bio-cellulosic material like switchgrass and there is not a single commercial ethanol plant in the United States capable. Ethanol is a snakegrass boondoggle for profit scheme get in and get out biding time and a short term patriotic move to reduce oil dependence from the Middle East. In fact it doesn't but that doesn't matter I guess. You should thank Exxon Mobil for saying it is a stupid strategy. You should thank Warren Staley, CEO of Cargill, world's largest marketer of corn, for telling it like it is and stating that if all the corn produced in the US was diverted from food and animal feed to ethanol we still could not provide 20% of our current gasoline usage. Nobody listens. We keep subsidizing the folly for political reasons. How about those fluorescent bulbs? We have a major problem with the old fashion 4 ft tubes but there are enough programs in place to manage disposal of them and keep them out of landfills and recover the mercury mainly because most come from commercial facilities and there are laws in place to manage them. How we going to keep 300 million people from disposing them in trash containers that will end up in landfills everywhere? Ain't gonna happen. We can't recover cans and plastic bottles at any significant rate. A looming poison earth problem? Wind energy? Put one in every back yard. Say goodbye to birds. I could go on and on but am exhausted typing. Just tell me how you are doing with your carbon footprint. How honest are you with yourself? How many of you have air conditioners on today while you proselytize about global warming?
