Lobster Dinner Music

Our local ShopRite ran a great lobster sale this weekend. Before we sat down to this elegant feast, I search for some appropriate music. The best I could do was some ocean related Bing Crosby pieces -- Red Sails In The Sunset, Beyond The Reef, Harbor Lights etc. Are there any suggestions for music to accompany a lobster dinner? Bill

Bobby Darren's "Sea Cruise" Theme from the WWII history series- 'Victory at Sea' ! or maybe the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's rendition of "Columbia, The Gem of the Ocean" !

The Washington Post March. In all seriousness, why would music be a concern while eating bugs?

It all depends on how serious the mood. Lobster can be eaten---at a shack on the beach with music by the Beach boys Surfing USA -- Sloop John B --- Catch A Wave --- or with a rowdy bunch singing around a fire on a beach "Down at the Bottom of the Sea" or in a 5 Star Restaurant with "La Mer" or "Somewhere Beyond the Sea" or ---just the sound of waves against the shore. I love the music of the sound of the waves lapping against the side of the sailboat, with the slight rocking and the perfect lobster and the perfect lady under a full moon-------- ----------Ah Yes ! I Remember It Well.

But the French version is the more authentic (Charles Trenet)... good versions on the "French Kiss" soundtrack, Kevin Kline sings the French version AMAZINGLY well! Great voice. I think anything from the "Little Mermaid" or "Finding Nemo" soundtracks... but then that's not "elegant", is it?! p.s. Where the HECK is Ort. Carlton when you need him?! (Has anyone seen him round here lately??)

When I eat lobster, I'm too busy eating to listen to anything but the shells being cracked. That, and the slurping noise made when a buttered tail goes down my gullet.

Just keep Martin Denny playing. If he asks for a break, put on Arthur Lyman. Hermosa Beach by Woody Herman Lisbon Antigua by Nelson Riddle Those are actually serious responses. My stab at being funny would be Come On Down To My Boat Baby by Every Mother's Son

The most wonderful music to one's ears while eating lobster is someone asking 'Are you ready for another one?"

Yup. That's what I meant. The only other music I can imagine going well with lobster is the music of steamers singing.

As long as it isn't what my family sat through at a Mt. Desert Island restaurant - a bunch of folk singers straight out of 'A Mighty Wind'. Mighty hard enjoying your dinner through the longest-ever rendition of 'Let My People Go' (I never knew cable-knit-sweatered beardos needed liberation).

For a dinner that's both elegant and romantic, I'd go with "The Essential Fred Astaire" CD. However, loster dinners always evoke visions of Charles Grodin and Jeannie Berlin's and I might end up snickering.

After long thought and sleepless nights I remembered the Clambakr from Carousel and the song------A REAL NICE CLAMBAKE---Rodgers and Hammerstein at their best !!! That song reminded me of Tommy Dorsey and his CLAMBAKE SEVEN and their rendition of a Shirley Temple hit----AT THE CODFISH BALL with Buddy Ebsen and Shirly tapping. Old TD and Shirley and Codfish reminded me of Coleman Hawkins' and his sax and his immortal BODY AND SOLE (From the movie of the same name with John Garfield and one of my favorite Lilli Palmer--) Then I remembered a ditty sung by MINNIE THE MERMAID called THE LOBSTER SONG which started out--- Oh Mr Fisherman, back from the sea Have you got a LOBSTER you'll sell to me---------- I am pooped. Have to go lie down and take a nap.

BETH The lobster scene was "priceless"! That's the scene where he starts telling her He's leaving her! On their honeymoon! Off topic, I just saw the Ben Stiller re-make. Good. But no cigar when compared to the original.

For something as elegant and wonderful as lobster, I would go with Handel's "Water Music."
