For I-95 travelers passing through South Carolina, try Lone Star BBQ in Santee. Great lowcountry style BBQ, hash, and side dishes. A great tomato pie also.

Pee Dee I have seen that place but never ate there. I lived in Florence for about 8 years.

My mom used to make it all the time growing up., And no, Its not for dessert... We had a very nice lunch at Watford's a few weeks ago when we took a side trip off I95 to see the famous Frayer's topiary gardens. Both the gardens and Watford's are worth the 15 mile detour. Cheers, John

Off the trail on to Tomato Pie. Yes, its a southern dish, not a pasta or a dessert. Tomatoes and cheese baked in a pie crust........Great casserole type dish! Lone Star BBQ is unusual in serving this alongside great Low Counrty SC style BBQ. Lone Star serves Shrimp and Grits on Saturdays. Y'all come! Another great Lowcountry style BBQ house is Sweatman's near Eutaville SC, just south of Santee.
