Local diner issue

I've got a local diner that puts out some really good homecooking at really reasonable prices. Problem is his hours are really erratic. (did I use really enough?) He's supposed to be open from 0600 - 1900. But ya never know. Ava and I went there Wednesday night at 1700 and he was closed. Again. It gets really hard to support a place when you never know if/when they are going to be open or not.

Reminds me of the Totonno's pizza place in Coney Island. They would close when the pizza dough ran out. Mike's post leaves the reader wondering why the diner closes early. Do they close after the majority of the homecooked cook is sold? Does the owner have health issues? Is the owner a free spirit? Do the later-shift employees not show up? Do they get tipped off if the Health Department is going to show up, so they close early? It might be a manageable issue if they give status when you call them on the phone. But if they are truly a breakfast-and-lunch place that just stay open until they sell out, they should be written off as a source of dinner.

Mike, One of my favorite train watching foodstops in Hesperia, CA opens early for breakfast (0530) which is really great, but then they shut-down after the lunch rush, anywhere from 1330 to 1400 or so. They are really regular in this schedule (I wish I was !!), but it is still an inconvenience for some of us old guys who really enjoy the lunch specials then like to homestead one of the tables that have a good view of the BNSF mainline for an afternoon of coffee and 'old guy' stories. They are polite about reminding us of closing, but they do run us out! This continues even now with the Mayor's absence !! When the weather permits (about 75% of the time) we just sit on the outdoor patio at the place and act as 'security greeters' after the place closes for the day !

What's the name of the place, Al? I'd really like to know.

mike, you went there wednesday nite; 2 days before christmas?? they were probably closed for the holiday! if this 'closing early' thing is a regular occurrance and you really do like the food there, i'd ask them what's going on! could be an issue like david mentioned...and it might be something that occurs regularly. like every tuesday, for example. once you know what the deal is, you'll know when is a good time to go...
