Long Branch Hot-Dogs Sat, 03/18/06 1:06 PM (permalink)
When this forum started out it was about the great hotdogs on the Jersey Shore in Long Branch. I was thrilled to read about them, since I was born and raised in Long Branch (now living in Florida). I miss those hotdogs at Max's and the Windmill so much. Nothing compares to them. But, rarely are there posts regarding the Jersey Shore dogs since. ha ha I hope there will be future posts about them. I will keep checking.

i have been reading this thread and drooling for over a year. i live in florida (through no fault of my own) and truly miss my long branch hot dogs. i was born and raised in monmouth county and i believe i was weaned on max's hot dogs in the original location on the board walk.
what great memories that old place holds for me. mr. max was still alive and in total control. we used to get out hot dogs and bottles of "sweetie" cream soda and sit out on the deck over looking the ocean.
when i go home max's is the first stop after the airport. depending on the time of year, i may have to go to the wind mill if max's is closed for the season.
we used to buy the schickhaus boardwalk franks in 5 or 10 pound boxes from marx brothers meat wholesalers in shrewsbury. i don't think they're around anymore. once in a while you could buy the "rejects", which tasted the same but were not big enough. but then again, they were a whole lot cheaper!
there isn't a hot dog around that can beat a max's hot dog.i miss them alot...right down to the crunch when you bite into an end.
please keep us informed if you ever find out where you can purchase them in florida.
