Just so's you know. Anyone had them? Generally everything at LJS sucks but for the price, dunk them in cocktail or chuck them on a taco and they might be ok

"...or chuck them..." Yep. That's what I would do.

But the clientele that patronizes LJS would eat fried turds on a stick if they added anything they called "lobster" to the batter.

HEY! I LIKE Long John Silver's! Arthur Treachers was better but LJS still beats a burger shack or taco stand any day. Yes, langostinos are prawns, not lobsters, but don't blame LJs for the confusion. It was either Red Lobster or the shellfishing industry who came up with the misnomer.

quote:Originally posted by DavidEMartin Yes, langostinos are prawns, not lobsters, nope. They are not prawns either, even though "langostino" means "prawn" in Spanish. In fact, they more closely related to porcelain crabs and hermit crabs. In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration allows "langostino" as an acceptable market name for two species: Cervimunida johni, and Pleuroncodes monodon

Geez, I actually thought they tasted good, even a bit like lobster, certainly not healthy or quality eating by any stretch of the imagination obviously. But now I'm wondering what I actually ate! DOH! Where can I find a picture of these mythical "lobster-like" creatures? Nevermind, I'm not sure I want to know. By the way, LJS calls it cheese curds, not "turds", and they're a pretty good fried cheese stick as cheese sticks go. And please, DON'T tell me they're not actually cheese. I just don't want to know. I'm not sure I could handle both the lobster & cheese info at the same time. :-)

Seriously, I think there's something crawfish looking like that in the stream at the end of my property. Maybe I could have captured, shelled, butter battered, and deep-fried that thing without even leaving home and going to LJS!? This sort of reminds me of restaurants that often advertise crab cakes and crab legs even though they fully know that what they are selling is really actually fish and not any sort of crab at all. I have to admit though, it did not taste like shrimp or crab, but more like lobster to me so I guess they fooled me good and I guess that's why they're selling so well.
