Looking For Hot Dog Stands in CT in the Vacinity of I-84

Hi everybody,
My family and I will be driving through CT on I 84 in a few weeks and we'd love to stop for some dogs. Any reccomendations? The only requirement is that it's not that far off 84.

Thanks in advance!

Not sure where I-84 is, but if it's close to Fairfield, you have Super Duper Weenie and Rawley's. New Britain has Capitol Lunch, Norwalk has Swanky Franks, Newington has Doogies, Stratford has Danny's, Cheshire has Blackies, Hamden has the Glenwood, which is my favorite; Mr. Mac's Canteen in Monroe. I've been to all these and some more I can't remember. All are very good and worth stopping for. I know there are posters from Connecticut on here that can help. It's one of the 2 or 3 best states in the country for hot dogs.

Michael Hoffman, you were originally from Connecticut? You've mentioned Jimmie's of Savin Rock and maybe the Strand? Are they still there?

Jimmy's is now an indoor seafood place, and the only Strand I remember is the Strand movie theater on Dixwell Avenue in Hamden, Connecticut.

Blackie's is 1-2 minutes off I-84 in Cheshire.

John, The Strand is gone, but The Dog House in Newington serves a good facsimile of their hot dog. (Also not far from I-84, and also serving steamed cheeseburgers).

Frankie's in Waterbury is second to none.  Besides a great dog, try the whole belly clams, hot lobster roll and soft shell crab.

I feel sort of bad correcting you as you are Michael Stern but as I do live in Newington and the place you are thinking of is actually called the Dawg House and it is right off of Rte 9 near CCSU in New Britain.  Chef's Dog House is in Newington and his hot dogs are not nearly as good.  Their hook is what they call "CT's largest condiment bar"..........

Also you could try the Bethel Hot Dog palace off Exit 9 in Bethel.  I've not been but it is on my list of places to try!  The reviews here look promising.

There is also Woody's in Downtown Hartford.  It was featured on Travel Chanel's Man Vs Food.

As jonsull mentioned the Bethel Hot Dog Palace.... Try the Texas Dog.  The Bacon really makes it!

Doogies on the Berlin Tpke is a good option as John Fox mentioned, but it is not very close to 84.  If you do head down the Berlin Tpke, its worth passing Doogies to go to Berlin Pizza.  They use Martin Rosol dogs, and toast the New England Style buns.  Try the Mexican.

You need to go to Lucky Dog Hot Dogs in Naugatuck CT! THE BEST! Exit 17 off 84 West and about 3 miles on the town Green. They have a pretty "cult" like following, one because they serve AWESOME Hummel Brothers steamed dogs, and two the owner is also the Genera l Manager of the Danbury Whalers professional hockey team so they get a lot of people from all over CT/NY making the trip. I was there a few weeks ago on their opener and the line was crazy. Worth the trip. Try their hot pepper relish

What part of CT are you driving through? The CT section runs from the mass line by Worcester all the way to Danbury NY border. We might be able to help you narrow it down better, if you tell us the area.

    Hi everyone,
Sorry for the delay in replying, my life is crazy right now.
    @Hot Dog Empire...All of it!
We went on a family vacation to NH from NJ, and when I went to school up that way I used to take the entire length of 84 from the NY Border to the Mass Pike so I was open as to where we stopped. However this trip we followed our GPS which took us a totally different way over the GWB, up 95 to 91 to 84 I believe. I also had recently downloaded a new app for my phone called the TV Food Map app and it tells you what food establishments that have been featured on various Food Netowork and Travel Channel shows are nearby. So I used it and it said we were near Super Duper Weenie which was great as I've been meaning to go there. I don't remember what I had but I know that I liked it. We went in early June and I have the memory of a goldfish.
@Foodosaurus Thanks for the reccomendation on Woody's, but I've been there. we hit it up last time  on our way to NH and it was excellent.
