Looking for Volunteer Forum Moderators

The good word must be getting out because the volume of traffic on Roadfood.com has increased by 50% during the past six months! Our forum moderators are impacted by the growth, so I am putting out a request for filling a couple volunteer moderator positions. Please contact me through the email feature in the forums if you are interested in joining the team and to also explain your qualifications. - Stephen Rushmore

I would suggest emailing users who you think would make a good moderator to try to get them to help out. Maybe the volunteer rate is high for the position, but generally, when our little company needs volunteer, we email or phone call directly. In my experience, the "open call" for volunteers is relatively unsuccessful. A personal note to someone who has been using the forums for a long time would probably be a good idea. Also, I'm not sure how you work it now, but you may want to assign the moderators certain catagories, instead of four people moderating all catagories, maybe have moderators only worry about some of the catagories, that way the job isn't so big. It seems like a lot of work and a big job right now! Maybe finding a few moderators who can moderate just two catagories to lessen the burden would help get people to say "yes," and help ease your job of moderating a whole lot of catagories. And if, you already do it that way, then, ignore this whole last paragraph.

I can say with certainty I have not stepped forward because I don't think I would be welcome as a boards admin. I understand and accept that fact; I'm OK with it. I can say with equal certainty that if I could admin just the Fast Food section -- an area I already defend vehemently from the posters who decry it's very existence -- I would be interested in that.

Actually, I really like TJ's idea. SIDENOTE: Mark down this date! Individual forums might be easier to handle rather than the grand scope of the whole set. The current forum admins can retain their positions as sort of overseers, but then the help can come from some sub-moderation of some of the busier fora. I have seen this work well on other sites. I hereby second the nomination for TJ to handle all things crap. And, I would gladly volunteer to moderate one of the sections, too, if that would help. I promise to actively seek out threads from my own section that I could heave and/or ho over to TJ's area! Steve

I give my vote for TJ as a FF forum admin. I understand why this specific forum was created but I don't understand why those who despise FF need to keep coming in there and trashing the subject matter w/o adding anything of value to the threads.

I wish TJ would consider becoming a moderator. In the time I've spent here he's always seemed to be a friendly fair minded person. I moderate a board myself, and I know what a pain it can be sometimes.

Based on this comment alone, if Bill isn't interested you've got my vote.

Hello All, If TJ is going to be Fast Food Moderator, can he withstand the pressures of the limelight and make the following statements that other great leaders have said: "I am not a crook." R. Nixon "I did not have sex with that woman." B. Clinton "There are wmd's in McDonald's, I mean, Iraq." G. W. Bush If he will make and stand by these words, I think TJ Jackson is the one for Fast Food Moderator. Seriously, go TJ. Take Care, Fieldthistle

The forum where I work has what are called section leaders (moderators) each of whom is primarily responsible for a couple of sections. However, each also spends time checking all sections and applies the rules wherever they need applying. Of course, we have extensive rules which are always available to members via a link on the home page.
