Looking for lunch (subs?) in New Jersey- Lakewood/Manchester Township/Whiting

I have to schlep down to Ocean County, New Jersey for a wedding tomorrow and I'm going to have a few hours to kill in the middle of the day. I'm going to be in Lakewood and Manchester Township. I do not know that area at all. Any great local sub shops around there? Or classic diners? I know that Circus place isn't too far, but I'm sure my wife will not abide driving out to the beach in the middle of summer traffic just for a burger.

PigIron, Sorry I didn't post sooner. Where did you end up eating? On the Lakewood/Brick Twp border (Brick is the next town over) is place called Primo Hoagies, 500 Brick Blvd, Brick. www.primohoagies.com. I've never eaten there so I can't vouch for it but I've heard many good things about it. Also in Brick is the Rainbow Diner on Rt 70 whcih is a very good Jersey Diner. Sorry I'm a few days late! Hope your lunch was good. Dave

I wound up eating pretzels in the car. It took 3.5 hours to get from Manhattan to Lakewood. I expected a little traffic, but it wound up being a complete nightmare. At one point I was eyeballing my son's jar of stage 3 cinnamon apple oatmeal. Thanks for the suggestions, next time I will plan a little better. By the way, I got home in 71 minutes later that night.
