Wanted to expand this a little....

Looks like I may also be spending time in Monroe and Alexandria, LA, so if anyone has suggestions, I would love to see them.  Thanks!

BB:  Although I cannot give you any specific choices, this is following the crawfish season and so many places around there feature that creature. Dr. Roz managed two business's in Monroe and Alexandria and I visited a place on a lake right out of Alexandria.  I had crawfish of every type and it was very good but I suspect many around that region features the same thing.  In Monroe, I always stayed at Marriott's Courtyard.  Alexandria is more entertaining than Monroe.

Leaving on the trip one week from today.  If anyone else has a suggestion in northern Louisiana, I would love to hear it.

Has anyone ever been to Marlar's Cafeteria, just across the border in Magnolia, AR?

This one is on the list that Elise T posted on another thread.
The neon sign fits what you like.

AND they have "Mixed Drinks" - Wine & Beer!
(Just the way you read the sign I guess)

Thanks FoodbmeHerby K's has been on my radar all along, as it has recently been reviewed here on Roadfood.  It sure sounds like my kind of place.

In Alexandria, there's The Cottage.  Local lunch place.  Been around for a long time.  Good creamed soups.  Limited pie selection though.

I've heard Restaurant Cotton in Monroe has a  draft beer list of southern crafts beers, but I've never been there, so can't opine on the food.  For good coffee try the Corner Coffeehouse in West Monroe, on Blanchard off Thomas Road. They have a shop next door that sells cupcakes, that Southern specialty--cookie cake--and some interesting daily sammie specials.

Thanks again for the recommendation for The Cottage.  I had a very enjoyable lunch there.

Just in case someone in the future is looking for suggestions in Shreveport, this is an excellent source.
