LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Los Angeles City Council has approved a one-year moratorium on new fast-food restaurants in a low-income area of the city.

That's funny. Why don't they just send a farmer's market caravan Mondays and Thursdays offering free produce throughout the neighborhood.

It would all be taken, but not for consumption, but to be sold elsewhere.

And just to keep everyone up to date. South L.A. is the old South Central.

They thought an official name change would, well change things. It didn't.

Michael put me up to this, so charge him with the deletion.

They also banned plastic bags and steamed hot dogs on carts. They will soon all have to be grilled. I'm sure that in a year, all the residents there will be svelte in their new jogging outfits. L.A.'d be better off expending their efforts on their gangs and smog.

They are going to charge .20 cents per plastic bags at grocery stores. Banning Fast Food places in South Central LA, makes as much sense as banning Wolfgang Puck restaurants in Beverly Hills.

San Francisco has just taken the next Nanny Step. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has passed a measure banning the sale of tobacco products in drug stores. My guess is that they don't want people to buy anything to smoke that isn't the marijuana that they've already made a lowest priority offense to sell, possess or use.

Then there's California Attorney General Jerry (Moonbeam) Brown, who says the state will sue to block a water bottling plant from operating because of its possible effect on global warming.

Since I'm not allowed to comment on the political make-up of those "decision makers" I'll comment on another aspect. If I were a person living in that affected area, I would really feel insulted to know that the government believes it can decide what's right for me to eat and I wasn't of the mental capacity to make that decision myself. Unfortunately, the affected people are probably not able to recognize that part of the resolution.

Has "Mr. H" been approved of ?
I'm betting not. It sounds like Happy Days' Tom Boseley.
