Los Angeles to Mexicali

I was told about a family style Basque restaurant on the way to Mexicali. I suppose it's on I-8. Anyone know of it.
Also, the trip is about the same distance going via Palm Springs and through San Diego. Any recommendation on which way to go? Roger

Are you driving? Are you going in a group?

Maybe someone else has info on the possible Basque restaurant, so I will limit my comment to the route choice.
The traffic on the L A to Dago segment would be enough to turn me off totally. Use the 10 to Indio and then the old rt 99 down to the Border if you really intend to go. I seriously recommend avoiding ANY after dark driving anywhere near the 8 or in the Imperial Valley at night!!! The Border area is no safer in SoCal than it is near Nogales or El Paso further East.
