Best Provisions, Newark, N.J., makes a lower sodium, 8-to-a-lb , all beef hot dog. It's in a blue and silver package as opposed to their usual, white and red wrapping. I've never had one, but some folks consider it quite good.

I tried the Five Star (from Ohio), and it was a decently spicy dog which claims low sodium ( http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13563 ). It was a bit pricey, but yet tasty...

A low salt hot dog is an oxymoron, same as an organic beef, uncured, hot dog which contains at least 300mg of sodium.

Try Boar’s Head “Lite” beef franks -- if you can find them. They are lower in sodium as well as lower in fat. Their package lists each dog as having 6g of fat and 270mg of sodium. They come ten to a pound in natural casing or skinless, and have that great Boar’s Head flavor. I find them excellent grilled, steamed, or even boiled.

Boar's Head natural casing dogs are great products. Boar's Head products are available in the midwest(mostly meats & cold cuts), but very few places carry them. I've yet to see their Lite Beef Franks in all my Chicago/Wisconsin travels. Anything under 300mg of sodium would be considered a low salt hot dog and the 270mg Boar's Head is definitely a winner.
