Mac's Double Cheeseburger...

Today i heard on the radio that in order for McDonald's to continue to sell the double cheeseburger for 99 cents they'll have to serve it with only one slice of cheese! Kinda ruins it for me.

One slice will be enough. Once they go to 1.09 (and at some point they will have to), all future increases will be easy. With tax, 2 cost me $2.10. I drink water. (I'm still fat, but 40 lbs lighter than when I was a soda addict)

Hell....we don't even get them for a buck in the St Louis area. I get sick of seeing those commercials on TV and then being told at every place that "we don't offer that". We just got a coupon in the paper that allows us to buy one for $1.50 each.

I have to drive an hour to get that price. Still a joke priced @ $1.99 in my area. And then they STILL don't toast the buns...

The choices were either cut back to one slice of cheese or offer a double hamburger instead. I vote for double hamburger since I always scrape of the cheese.

About 80% of the cheese ends up stuck to the wrapper anyway since I'm pretty sure their version of assembling a burger is the same as my version of pin the tail on the donkey...It'd probably be less frustrating without cheese. Edit: I just realized what a sad statement it is that the CHEESE is more expensive than the BURGER. Yikes.

Some feature writer from the NY Daily News wrote about that McDonald's PR release the other day. That writer obviously doesn't eat in McDonald's, because you are not going to get the double cheeseburger for a buck in NYC. The only places I have seen it lately is in the boonies where there are 6 FF burger joints on the same stretch of State Highway so-and-so within 1/4 mile. Anyway, readers commenting on the paper's web site gave market price from the field. Inflation was low for quite a while. We got spoiled.

Still $1 here in Chipley (with the ubiquitous Triple Cheeseburger at $1.49 next to it on the menu board). And also right up the road (about 150 miles) in Columbus, GA & surrounding areas, all 32 oz. drinks (not just the sweet tea) are $1 (in-between Dothan & Panama City, we don't get the advertised specials they have in Dothan)

Still a buck here in Daytona Beach. I order it with Big Mac sauce and lettuce for another 25 cents. Along with a senior Coke it's a cheap lunch for under two bucks and I like them.

John, I need to try that. I hate the cheese! I get one sometimes, no cheese, extra pickles, still a buck. Joe

keep that yellow cheese. give me a double hamburger. I always get the $1 cb & peel all the hanger cheese off & throw it it out. I've seen birds spit that stuff out.

If you shop at the Shop Rite on Central Ave. in Clark they have McDonald's Big Mac 'Buy One Get One Free' coupons on the back of the Shop Rite Receipt . We shop there every week and could have probably accumulated enough big macs to feed a family for a year. Since we dont go to McDonalds the coupons just end up in the garbage

I worked corporately for McDonald's at the time beef shortages forced McDonald's to examine the pricing and specifications for its 15 cent hamburger. It wasn't an easy decision but McDonald's made the right one. Rather than mess with the hamburger they raised the price to 18 cents. Nowadays McDonald's management seems less committed to quality. Cooked hamburger holding bins prove that. I wouldn't be surprised if management decided to remove a slice of cheese rather than increase the price of a double cheeseburger.

People don't want gourmet food in todays economy. They want decent food cheap. That is exactly what Mickey D's provides. They are trying to run a buissness that will satisfy hundreds of millions, not worry about a disgruntled few. Just like everyone else in this world they are in it to turn a profit and retain their "client base" if you will.

Toasted bun? Are you certain? Gee, if they did that around here, I would toss the pucks and yellow slices and eat the bun!
