In my limited experience, the food at Maggiano's seemed good at first (albeit grossly overpriced), but after a few bites it was obvious that the sodium level in their food is incredibly high.  If you are using genuinely good-quality ingredients, and if the chef knows how to use herbs and spices correctly, there is absolutely no need to put such huge amounts of salt into everything.

They don't specifically address sodium, but you are not the first to question Maggiano's nutritional information.

I thought it was required to provide nutritional info to consumers.

      FrancoAmerican is still in biz?

Sure. But the name was changed back when we started calling French fries Freedom fries. Campbell's decided to change the name so people wouldn't think it was French. It's now sold as Campbell's Spaghetti.

I've never been able to find a reason to go to a chain Italian place. If one does not have a good Italian restaurant available, then stay home and open a can of Franco American. The food will be just as good, and as authentic, and you don't have to tip.

Let see........................a can of spam, a tin of sardines, and a can of Franco American.  I believe that would be called  'surf and turf with a side of pasta

Michael you are ridiculous....But, I enjoy you.

Nutritional  information?  If I want to monitor my sodium, fat intake, calorie count, I'll eat at home.  When we go out to eat, we do so to enjoy ourselves.  To get out of the house, out of the kitchen, etc.  We go with friends and it's a whole social thing.  Nobody I've ever dined with asked to see or seemed concerned with nutritional breakdowns.  If they are, they don't talk about it.

However, if you are on the road and have to eat all your meals out or you and/or your other better half do not cook and you, too, eat out all the time, then I'd absolutely agree that the nuturitional issue means a lot.

I think there is a place for nutrition and most of these chains will make some accomodation on their menu.  But, let's face it.  The American dining public likes big portions.  The chains know this and many of them cater to it.  Huge desserts, big appetizers, big entrees..That's what a lot of people enjoy.  And, of course, this is why we have a weight problem in this country.  But, we make our own choices in life right?

When I was a kid my perfect lunch -- made by myself, of course -- was a can of Spam, sliced and fried, a jar of B&M baked beans, a can of Franco American, a can of Mary Kitchen corned beef hash, a can of sardines in olive oil and a sliced onion.

I didn't call it surf and turf. I called it a good meal.

How much more is there to say?  I've said my piece (peace) and you come out with a blanket statement without  any substance behind it trashing all chains.

Are you accusing me of trashing all chains? If you are, you're blowing really funny smoke, because I do not bash chains because they are chains. Remember? I'm often bashed about my good feelings about Waffle House, which, the last time I looked was still a chain. White Castle. Yep. Still a chain. Heck, I'm quite open minded. Why, I even respond to you.

You never had a good reason to go to a Italian chain restaurant but you felt the need to comment on the post.  The implication that there are no decent Italian chain restaurant is based on what?  Your vast experience in the restaurant business?  Reading about the Italian chains?  Asking friends?  Or, are you simply bored?

You've never felt the need to try a Italian chain, yet you've interjected senseless commentary on a subject.  Since you have no first hand experience to draw from, I'd say you just wanted to let us all know you are still awake and breathing.

Mr. Ben, you really should never attempt to participate in a battle of wits when you are unarmed.

You don't comment just to hear yourself talk?  In this instance, you bore into a post having never been to an Italian chain restaurant.  Yet you trash them all?  Where was the basis of your argument derived from?  Your gut feeling?  I guess you felt your vast experience in having never eaten in a Italian chain before qualified oyu to mae this assesment.

Are we to believe your opinion just because you are Michael Hoffman?  Hey roadfoodies..Stay away from all Italian restaurant chains...Michael Hoffman has spoken.

"And the children are the ones who can't take the truth."  What the hell are you talking about?  What truth?
