The magnets wont stick to SS, take a magnet of your fridge and try to stick it on your cart. It won't.

In Mt. Vernon, Sharxdesign might make magnetic signs: Sharxdesign.com 12540 Upper Fredericktown Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050 (740) 627-7890 If they don't, Sign Graphix in Mansfield lists magnetic signs on their website: Sign Graphix 131 W Cook Road # B, Mansfield, OH 44907 1-888-294-6783 www.signgraphixinc.com Just remember, magnetic signs will only stick to iron or steel, not to aluminum or plastic! Edit: Yes, even stainless steel. I just tried some refrigerator magnets on stainless steel tableware and they stuck.

You might try a sign on light-weight (but stiff) opaque plastic or aluminum attached by 1" x 1" or 1" x 2" (depending on the size of the sign) velcro pads glued to the corners of the sign (and the corresponding velcro pads glued to your cart

What about a sign printed on Corex and stuck to the cart with those little velcro fasteners? Wouldn't be expensive either! (My partner is a sign-writer).

The magnets wont stick to SS. You’re correct on good stainless steel but the cheaper SS will hold a magnet. They are made differently In recent years there has been a flood of stainless steel gas grills on the market, but be careful of what you are buying. For Will a magnet stick to it? How thick is the metal? How smooth is the surface? How was it put together? 304 stainless is the most common (about 50% of the worlds production). What you need to know is that there is magnetic (400) and non-magnetic (300) stainless steel. 400 series stainless steel is not as durable or corrosion (rust) resistant as 300 series. If you want durability in your stainless steel gas grill put a magnet on it. If the magnet sticks, don't buy it. Some manufacturers use a mixture of different metals so put that magnet all over the grill to test it all.

It's not that big of a deal really. I used the less expensive SS inside of my trailer. But my step van is being done in aluminum. The less expensive SS will last for a long time if cared for properly. But sooner or later it will rust and discolor and finally become more difficult to clean because it has a rough finish and contains standard steel in its base. Keep it clean and out of the weather when not in use and wash it often, and after cleaning DRY IT WELL. If you do those things it should last several years. More years than your car body.

One other thought if you have good stainless steel and want a magnet to stick to it: glue a thin iron flat bar behind the area you want to stick the magnet to. Just a common steel thin (as thick as a CD case, or thinner) one inch wide bar in two places will hold the magnetic sign in place.

Google for "VistaPrint Deals" and they usually have a deal to get a free or low cost magnet. My wife got several free ones from them for her flower business and they have been on the car for months. They are really good quality.

I think you can get custom sign work on a static type vinyl - something like what "Fat Heads" are made of. They use a static charge and can be applied and removed at will. I'll do a little research and get back to you.

Before you go buy something. Ignore the posters who tell you where to get magnetic signs or tell you that magnets will work on stainless steel. Pay attention to what the Dr. of BBQ wrote. If your cart is made from 300 series, forget the magnets. Try a refrigerator magnet on your cart before you go buy a sign you can't use.

They are made differently The typo mixed up some that were reading is all. What Dr of BBQ was saying was You're correct on good stainless steel but the cheaper SS will "NOT" hold a magnet. They are made differently. He left out the "not" No, No, No, LOL you have it backwards a magnet will not stick to good stainless steel. It will stick to the cheap stainless steel. My counter tops are the good stainless steel and a magnet won’t stick to them, but my walls are made of a less expensive stainless steel. Less expensive SS is made from nickel-copper alloys, "Stainless steels" aren't steels at all. Well, not in the Fe alloy sense anyway. Most are a nickel chromium alloy, no iron. A weak magnet is attracted, just so feebly you don't notice. On my walls I use 3 magnets to hold my tickets up while preparing food. In fact my walls are made of a sheet of cheaper stainless steel over a sheet of ¼ inch corrugated vinyl. It’s a product that is manufactured locally and the owner has been in the business of manufacturing the kitchen and bathroom wall coverings for restaurants and hotels for as long as I can remember. And yes I know this is still very confusing but the bottom line is if your grill, cart, whatever, is good SS a magnet will barely hold itself let alone a sign. But if it's of the cheaper type it may hold a magnetic sign. LMAO, it is very strange and some day someone that is smarter than I am will post the makeup of both types of Stainless Steel. By the way a really good steel man will swear that they can smell or taste a piece of steel and tell you what it’s made of. But that takes someone like David Klose, the guy that built my smoker. Jack

I took a 16 guage piece of flat steel about 18"X18", primed it and used industrial strength double stick tape to affix it to my cart. I then put a sign printed on vinyl over the metal (this is my price sign). If I do an event that requires a change in price I had my sign guy print another vinyl sign with a mangetic backing. This sticks quite well to the steel, doesn't cost much and makes for easy sign changing. I recommend you prime the metal well, you don't want it rusting up on you.

Jim, Yes, you or I would think of that, but I don’t understand why many folks just don’t think through a problem and find a local guy that is in the appropriate field to help with a problem? It makes me crazy sometimes. Does it just come with age or is it street smarts that will cause some to get on the phone to locals or friends and say “Hey how do I do this?” Or better yet not try to short cut everything, so that they don’t make bad decision after bad decision. We have a zillion people that come to this board and want all the answers to be provided by members, and it’s so obvious they have not read post one. Then you read weeks or months later they have a cart for sale because they can’t get it approved by their local health department, or can’t find a good location to set up. Both come about because they weren’t willing to grind through the research here and with the local authorities. And then you read about the people that got cheated or conned into buying a junk cart because they wouldn’t invest the money and time to go to Hot Dog University. When will they wake up and realize it requires work to open a business even if it’s a concession trailer or hot dog cart. Jack PS Over and above my normal day Tuesday I served lunch to 120 people at the state capitol and the following day lunch for 60 at a doctor’s office and did it by myself. Of course Tuesday I got up at 3:30 AM so I could get it all done, hot and on time. On the following day I got to sleep in until 5:00 AM.
