Maid-Rite opening up in Topeka, KS Mon, 09/29/08 5:31 PM (permalink)
I saw in the paper this morning that a Maid-Rite was going to be opening up here in Topeka soon. I've never eaten at one, so is this something to look forward to? I don't think I've ever seen one anywhere near here, even in Kansas City or Omaha.

    Isn't that a cleaning service?

They have a loose meat hamburger. Go to the Maid-Rite website to learn more about them

I've seen their web site - just wondering if anyone had eaten there?

            Regarding their website: http://www.maid-rite.com/

There's a link for "New Locations", but I don't find any other locations. Am I missing something or is this just a badly designed website?

I like them althought I don't have any locally so I don't eat them too often.

That's very interesting news. A few months ago, there was a rumor here in Emporia (and it made the local paper) that Maid-Rite was scouting locations here. I'm not surprised that they chose Topeka, though.

And of course, Wichita has the Nu-Way original, so I'm sort of looking forward to being able to compare the two! Thanks for the head's up.

It is an odd website when you can't find all of the locations. Just shows the new locations. Almost like they are more interested in selling franchises.

Don't feel too bad - you guys have a Braum's in Emporia, and that's the closest one to Topeka. We ate there in July after the Shrine Bowl Parade.

This is true about Braum's, Niagara! And since I'm not exactly a "fur piece" from Topeka, all the more reason to make a run up I-335! Honestly, I am looking forward to comparing Maid-Rite to Nu-Way. (You have to love those older pun-filled names, too...)

I need to look up the article. Is the Maid-Rite shop going to be built along Wanamaker Road? Seems like everything else is moving in THAT direction!

Zeeba - Amazingly, the Maid-Rite is NOT going to be on Wanamaker! It's going in on the East side at the corner of 18th & Adams, at the exit off I-70 on the way downtown. The developer is putting it in along with a gas station.

They're also building our 4th Spangles at 29th & Topeka. We did get a Freddy's Custard & Steakburgers, a Jimmy John's subs and a Qdoba Burritos on Wanamaker in the last 6 months. Still no Braum's, though (I like Braum's for their sugar free ice cream & burgers).

BTW, all of us Shriners had a riot in Emporia at the Shrine Bowl in July.

There was mention in the Wichita paper that Maid-Rite is also looking to open locations in Wichita, which should make the "burger" wars more interesting with a firmly entrenched NuWay empire.
I don't see it working out -- if you're a NuWay fan, you're not going somewhere else for a loose burger fix, and if you're not a NuWay fan, you're not going to like another loose burger. Of course, this is coming from a guy who lives around the corner from the original NuWay, so maybe I'm biased.

I rarely get down to Wichita, and have never tried (or remember even seeing) a NuWay. I'll have to stop by one the next time I get to Wichita.

Kent, thanks for the tip about Maid-Rite and the Wichita possibility! I agree with you; I'm not sure how that franchise could completely successfully with the "hometown" Nu-Way. That will be very interesting to watch.

Niagara, it would indeed be neat to compare Nu-Way to Maid-Rite. That's the nice part about living in Emporia; it's just about an hour to Topeka, and about an hour and a half to Wichita. (Well, that's if you drive the speed limit, and if you are not a leadfoot like me when I can avoid the smokies...) Glad you enjoyed Emporia with the other Shriners!

Oh, my. I will reluctantly shoulder the responsibility to compare both, and report back here...
