Maine Lobster Shack Mentioned on "Ron & Fez" Radio Show Sat, 07/11/09 10:54 AM (permalink)
Heard Mr. Stern on the Ron & Fez radio show on Thursday, July 2.  He was asked where the best place to eat lobster in New England was, and he referenced a place in Maine where you eat oceanside.  I thought it might be the Five Islands Lobster Co., but I'm not 100% sure about this.  Evidentally, its in the book (which I've ordered off Amazon)... was just wondering if anyone had any info.

Thanks!

    In South Freeport, there is......

    http://www.harraseeketlunchandlobster.com/%3C/a%3E%3C/a%3E

Rachel Ray has been there, Holly Eats also.....Not sure if this is the one, but with such a long coastline, without knowing the town, its hard to pinpoint which one...
Maybe see if the Ron & Fez radio show has a replay to can listen to....

I remember Ron and Ron in the early to mid 90's while they were in Florida.. In fact I went to one of their live broadcasts held at Holiday Isle in Islamorada, Fla Keys....
I remember Fez being in the background and then it became Ron and Fez..
But they do have a forum messge board, where maybe you can ask this question.
Not to get off track.. sorry....

      Darn ,
Our radio show has not gotten to the Holiday Inn yet in NY , but we have played live remotes from  Provident Bank and Pennings Farm Market .
We are not a food related show by trade but we have had New Jerseys Foremost Authority on Hot Dogs ( opinion) and Jimmy from Jimmy Buffs on talking dogs .
Also Marc Scott owner of The Copper Bottom Restaurant in Florida NY and drummer for the hard rock group Trixter has been a guest a few times .

Was at the Five Island lobster Pound two weeks ago. it was the best I have been to in Maine. The lobster is excellent, they also have fried clams etc. The setting alone is worth the trip. Cross the rt 1 bridge just north of Bath, take right on rt 127 to the end at the harbor. Or as they say in Maine, drive east "until your hat floats".

          I agree,
Five Island Lobster is by far the best lobster I've had in Maine thus far.

For a more "salty" lobster experience consider Young's Lobster Pound in Belfast Maine.  This place is all about boiling up great lobster.  They will boil up crab, claims,  muscles and whatever other catch is on hand.  There is not table service and folks in the know bring their own sides and beverages and head-up stairs or outside to the picnic tables.  Great spot and great lobster.  Well of the beaten path.

I am thinking it might be The Lobster Shack at Twin Lights.  Mr. Stern has reviewed this place and it is on the ocean.  It has a different "feel" than Five Islands.  I have eaten at both and they are both fantastic.

The place we referenced was Five Islands in Georgetown. Great lobster and great place, too. There are a few pictures of it in the new book.

For view and Roadfood atmosphere, Five Islands is without peer.  I'd still rather have a lobster roll from Red's Eats, though.

I have been there several times and I agree that the settings and choice of lobsters is very good.

                    I truly enjoyed the setting.

I spent a long weekend in September some years ago, visiting various lobster shacks along that part of the Maine coast with my husband.

We enjoyed them all, but Five Islands was far and away the nicest setting, and, IMHO, the best lobster rolls.  My husband thought they had the best fried clams, as well.

I lived in Maine for 7 years (miss it bigtime) & my favorite was Cape Pier in Cape Porpoise...just north of Kennebunkport. Its a BYO place & you sit out eating with a small harbor on one side and a lighthouse in the distance on the other. No frills, but you don't go there to admire the linen tablecloths. Try to get there about 30 minutes before sunset.
