We're getting ready for our honeymoon/road trip, three weeks poking around New England. Probably following Route 2 or Route 25, though we're not sticking to any particular itineraries. Suggestions? We're especially lacking ideas for Maine from Yarmouth to Bangor...

I'm sure that at least one morning will find you in or around West Brattleboro, VT, which means that you get to have breakfast at the Chelsea Royal Diner on Route 9. See Jane and Michael's review for further details.

I am also traveling into New England and need some good places in VT - especially Burlington and St. Jonesbury and also in ME - Bar Harbour, Ogunquit, Kennebunkport, and along the shore. I know about Newick's in NH and also ME. I also know about Chauncy Creek Lobster Pond, Harraseeket Lobster Pound and Browns Ice Cream. I need some good Italian places and places that service children (especially picky children). Any help would be appreciated. RisaG

As a Bostonian (ok,greater Bostonian), and someone who has family in Kennebunkport (Arundel), I can honestly admit to not dining Italian much on the coast of Maine. The majority of places involve pizza and calzones, nothing resembling creative Italian. The only exceptions are http://www.restaurantgrissini.com/-Restaurant Grissini in Dock Square in Kennebunkport Portland, is much different-they list about 10 different Italian eateries. DaveM

We like the Sirloin Saloon in South Burlington. They also have another location in Rutland. As far as diners, The Parkway in South Burlington and The Oasis in downtown Burlington are good "traditional" diners. Libby's Blue Line Diner in Winooski is more of a restaurant (pretty good too, usually) residing inside a diner structure. Wally

Check out the thread topic "Our Roadfood Honeymoon". Last August, our honeymoon included stops in CT, Cape Cod, Kennebunkport, Bar Harbor, and Vermont. There are numerous pages of suggestions and a travelogue of our trip.

Cheesewit, thanks so much for sending me to your honeymoon thread! I printed the whole thing out, all twenty-plus pages of it. While we're not planning on hitting all the places you did (like Bar Harbor, which we're assuming will be overrun/overpriced), we might just end up there anyway...

RisaG Jordan Pond House in Bar Harbor: BEST BEST BEST popovers anyone will ever find—ever—on the face of this planet. also great lunches and dinners, but the popovers ROCK this world: served hot with fresh butter and home-made jam, delivered just two or three at a time, so they don't lose their heat...MMMMMMMMMmmmmmmm. Find yourself a table out on the lawn, near the pond. Incredibly efficient servers are at the ready to serve you, with the names of their hometowns on their nametags, for an interesting conversational touch. Matt McCormick

Wild Willy's Burgers on Rt 1 in York, just north of the outlets in Kittery,ME-all they do is burgers. A bit blurry, but the one in front is a doublebacon cheeseburger with BBQ sauce and onions and pickles. The fries are indeed home cut and fresh-they also do milkshakes. I ran into a woman inside Flo's Hot Dogs who hailed from CT, and when asked by her friends and aquaintances where to go in Southern Maine for lobster, she replies "Lobster can be bought anywhere in Maine-go to Flo's for hot dogs and Wild Willy's for burgers." RisaG The Miss Lyndonville Diner in St Johnsbury, Vermont is just 5 miles north of St Johnsbury. It's been written up in the Road Food book, and I can attest to its wonderfulness! Great breakfasts, dinners pure comfort. Don't be fooled by the pale imitation in St Johnsbury; can't compare. If you arrive around a mealtime, expect to wait for a table. Mid-morning or mid-afternoon you shouldn't have to. Highly recommend the blueberry pie. It's sweet but mellow, not the usual over-sugared stuff. Give it a try!
