Many years ago, around 1972, I was taken for Sunday "dinner" to a private house on the outskirts of Atlanta. I was told it was called "Mama Hull's", simply because it was where she and about 5 daughters lived. For a very reasonable price (I think it was $3.50), we had the freshest, tastiest Southern meal with all the fixin's. All the vegetables came from their own garden, and I remember a table with at least 10 kinds of delicious, homemade pies. The place was very popular with the music community (I was traveling through on a tour), and also with people who worked at the Journal-Constitution. Does anybody know any history of the place? How long did it last? Come on food folks- raise your voices. Thanks. rongmtek

Ma Hull's closed in the late 70's or early 80's. It was located off Edgewood Ave. in SE ATL. One of the true boarding houses in ATL along with the Southern Club, etc. Deacon's or Deke's as we called it was another southern food place which closed when the owner died. His family had a falling out and some of the siblings tried a resurrection of the old place but I don't know the results of their venture. Ma Hull's was a classic.

Thanks, Oneiron. I've wondered about Mama Hull's for years. I was always sorry I never made it back again. Any idea when it started? Ron
