March Madness 2011

Hopefully the great games in the conference tournaments are only the beginning. Washington (Arizona) and Princeton (Harvard) winning at the buzzer, Memphis nipping UTEP with less than 8 seconds to go, a fair amount of upsets...looks like it could be a great NCAA tournament. Nice choke job, Miami. Nice choke job, Clemson. Nice choke job, Illinois. Hopefully you all get the NIT bids you deserve. Brad

Well, Ohio State and Kansas seem assured of #1 seeds, but everyone else keeps tripping on their shoelaces.

The only thing I understand about any of this is that Duke is going to clean up as usual. BT, Duke, '71

That reminds me. I need to call my daughter in Scottsdale. She should be home by now, considering that it's 7:45. Oh, wait. It's not 7:45 there.

If you have Grandchildren out here, be sure to tell your Daughter that the USAF Thunderbirds will be flying Sat & Sun at Luke AFB in Goodyear this weekend. Kids would get a kick out of it---I Still Do To! http://www.luke.af.mil/library/lukedays.asp

When we lived in Pensacola we got to see the Blues quite often since that's their home base and they would do their practice shows at Pensacola NAS. The Birds would do their shows at Eglin AFB in Ft. Walton Beach, FL I liked them both but I think the Thunderbirds put on a better show!

As a former sailor (that's a reference to sailing in sailboats, not the Navy) I love the Americas Cup races. I Hope ESPN gets them again. As to March Madness, Ohio State is the No. 1 overall seed, and they play this afternoon at 4:30. So there!

I enjoyed the America's Cup living in Newport, RI in 1970. It was quite spectacular back then. The docks, the harbor, the restaurants, the bars and all the people. What was my job? I was the US Navy's night shore patrol officer in charge in Newport that summer. Very interesting experience.

Big surprise trips home: Memphis and Georgrtown. I enjoyed both since those are my two least favorite teams in the tournament.

We are a family of 17, ages 66 to 5 months. Last night we had a family birthday get together with all 17 of us. 4 of us are adopted Hoosiers & 13 natural born Hoosiers. We are all Butler fans-our 10 year old grandson went to Butler's backetball camp & the Butler players were counselors, I worked in the Butler biolgy department. My husband & I are Purdue fans, but everyone else is Indiana University all the way. Last night we were watching the Butler game & scared the 5 month old little girl with all the shouting at the end of the game. The baby's daddy said "Welcome to the family! Just be glad it wasn't a Colts game!"

Butler? I remember Butler. They used to have a coach named Thad Matta. Can't say as I remember whatever happened to him.

Michael, Thad Matta died penniless after investing his coaching buy-out money in gold-mining scheme in California in 1850. I thought you knew. Sorry you had to get the bad news this way. ( ) BTW, Kentucky managed to pull off a pretty good upset last night. Hasta Luego, Buckeyes !

The Final 4 could be renamed the Commonwealth Games. The possibility exists--- The Commonwealth Of KY verses VA Commonwealth University??? It's possible ya know!
