Margaret Whiting & David nelson Die

Margaret Whiting was a great singer back in the great singers era. She was 86. I saw her last about 10 years ago and at 76 she still had great pipes. Had a very distinctive voice---2 notes and you knew it was Margaret. RIP, you were great. And, David Nelson--- Ozzie and Harriets older son @ 74. He was the more laid back brother if you recall. RIP David you caught up to the rest of the family..

Anyone remember her recording of There's a Tree in the Meadow? Her father, Richard Whiting, was a frequent collaborater with Johnny Mercer.

I saw Margaret Whiting when she played with Rosemary Clooney and two others... Kaye Ballard? in their show which was called 4 Girls 4. What a show from fabulous women. I was in Palm Springs and it was the 80s. I love the American Standards and it saddens me when we lose another of the great ones. No one now compares to the singers and nothing now compares to their songs.

I am starting to feel really old when I remember how young I was when I watched Ozzie and Harriet Show. Margaret Whiting seemed to have an interesting life, especially her marriage partners..... Johnny Mercer songs have always been some of my faves, bet the 4girls4 show was spectacular.

There's a tree in the meadow With a Stream drifting by And carved upon that tree I see I'll love you till I die. Yes, Michael in 1946 or 7 that was "our "song. Fran and I danced the night away to it. Jute box was 6 plays for a quarter---and I would play it 6 times--------a wise guy got mad at us and threatened to poke me in the eye---Fran jumped between and said " Hit me first, I told him to do it". First big mistake in my life was not marrying that girl.

She was----but there were too many to just settle for one. Then when I decided she was gone----married a NYCity Detective who rose to Captain. Had half a dozen kids and died last year, I saw her name in the paper. Fran did OK I guess. But we loved Margaret Whiting-----loved her voice. Michael---You are the first person I have ever come across who knew about that song. Thanks for the memorie. (Bob Hope).

Whiting laid down the microphone and sang "My Ideal" unamplified -- it carried all the way to the top balcony.

My Ideal was written (music) by her Father Richard (Dick). She was 86 when she passed on so the last time I saw her she was 75 or 6 and she could still belt 'em.

Will I ever find the girl in my mind? The one who is my ideal Maybe she's a dream and yet she might be Just around the corner waiting for me Will I recognize the light in her eyes That no other eyes reveal Or will I pass her by and never even know That she was my ideal In addition to Dick Whiting, the others credited are Leo Robin and Newell Chase

Oh, they'll come to put you away, all right. That's because they're idiots.
