Marlin and Ray's Seafood Bar & Gill <UPDATE> Review w/pics
The town I live in is the corporate HQ's for Ruby Tuesday's. A few months ago, they closed the oldest of the 2 stores in town and announced they would be opening a seafood restaraunt. http://www.nrn.com/articl...od-concept-next-spring

I guess if it is a success, they will open more around the country. I haven't been as of yet, but eventually will make it just to see what it is about. I prefer a seafood place that is along the shores.
My wife and I got a chance to get out without our daughter tonite, so we made a stop at Marlin & Ray's

The thing that first hit us walking in was the absence of the famous RT salad bar. The restaurant seemed very open to us compared to what it had been.
We ordered our drinks and these jalapeno/cheesy corn muffins were brought to the table. They were warm and tasted good.
My wife ordered Jumbo Shrimp w/mac&cheese. She's from CT and very hard to please when it comes to jumbo shrimp. She is usually disappointed by what most establishments call jumbo. These were to her liking as to size and flavor but thought they were a bit overdone. The mac&cheese was thick and cheesy.
I ordered the Southern Fish and chips. A large piece of tilapia, coleslaw and shoestring fries. Served with tarter sauce. The tilapia was a very large piece. It was very flaky and cooked right for my tastes. The breading was thin and did not stick to the fish well. It easily peeled off. The coleslaw was coarsely cut sitting on a lettuce leaf. The shoestring fries were dressed under the tilapia. I was full by the time I got to them and did not finish. The tarter sauce tasted freshly made although not thick enough for me.
Our meals came with bottomless salad. It came served in a bowl similar to what you would get at Olive Garden. A balsamic dressing was already mixed in the salad. This was my serving.
There was an issue with my wife's mac&cheese. Very unfortunate, but she found a small piece of plastic bag in it. We brought it to our server's attention who was apologetic. The manager came over and also apologized. He said they mix the product in a bag for portion control. He offered us dessert. My wife chose the brownie w/icecream and chocolate sauce. The brownie was very gooey and the ice cream was a good french vanilla.
We visited at around 7pm on a Thursday night. The place had plenty of customers but not packed. We felt we got very good service and our server was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. We appreciated the manager coming to our table and acknowledging the issue we had promptly and the gesture. We don't have many offerings for seafood in this area and this was a good substitute. I think we would go back to try it again.
This was my first detailed review. I hope it was descriptive and informative should you decide to try this restaurant should it open in your area.
