Gunsmoke lasted 20 years and James Arness made it happen. Didn't talk much but he sure kept the town clean. RIP Big Jim

I read today that initially the role was offered to John Wayne who turned it down. According to the story James Arness also turned it down because I guess he wanted a movie career. John Wayne advised him to take the role and the rest as they say is history.

I always loved the scraggy people that would grace the show from time to time, unusually nasty! LOL!

One of the first adult westerns. The reruns stand up well. I wish i could see the black and white shows more easily. James Arness had such presence . RIP sir.
