Went to Casey's for lunch today. We were VERY pleased. And so close!!!
Anyway, it is a takeaway lunch place and fishmonger. I asked about outdoor seating when it gets warmer, but they said no, they don't. But they HAVE thought about it. The first thing when we walked in, we were offered a sample of their soup that day--Maryland Crab. Well that was a smart thing for them to do, because we ended up getting some. Hubby and I shared a Captain Dave's platter. It came with a 6 oz. crabcake and our choice of two seafood items. We chose the fried fish and the clam strips. The platters also included fries and slaw.
The crabcake was the best thing of the trio. I think it was bigger than the advertised 6 oz. It was delish, but didn't have that tang I have come to love with Angelina's. The fish was a serious filet and wasn't battered but generously crumbed with Panko breadcrumbs and fried crisp. It was crunchy good, but I think it was a little over done...it could have been taken out of the fryer before it was. I will give them another shot on the fish fillet. The clam strips were clam strips. Nothing extraordinary. Slaw was just cool crisp cabbage and easy on the mayo. Salt & pepper and thats it. Quite good. The fries were tasty but did not travel well...they were limp and soggy by the time we got them home (about a 5 mile drive).
The star of the show was definitely the soup. Great tomato broth, lots of crab, red skin potatoes, peas, green beans, corn, onion, carrots. It had a little bit of a bite to it, so I am sure ther was some pepper sauce added. It was wonderful. We had stopped at our favorite bakery right before going to Casey's so we had beautiful bread in which to sop up every delightful bite. I would go there again for the soup, no problem.
We now have a menu at home and one for the car for pick-ups on the way home from work. Thank you Rusty for bringing this place to our attention!! My stomach thanks you, too!
