Oooooh--boiled p-nuts!!
You can have 'em.  Nasty little things, they are.

What's that bright pink wormy looking thing around the bacon-topped meat?
I'm not sure but it crawled out just before JRP put it on the grill.

It's some sort of heat-resistant, possibly somewhat elastic, reusable cord that's designed to be used in place of butcher string.

That pastrami looks fantastic...still awaiting the pie pictures though! Maybe someday I'll have a weekend off...

Those are silicon trusses. Much easier for me to use than butchers twine.

Are they re-usable?
Where do you get them?

Reusable - Yes. I don't recall where we found them. Possibly amazon.

Never knew they existed! Always used twine!
Yes they are on Amazon and other places. Googled silicone meat trusses and got a number of sources.
THANX for the tip!

The beans and pastrami look amazingly delicious. Those riblets looked really good----what kind were they?

Silicone meat trusses, huh. The idea sounds good, but hard to get past the name visuals......" />" />

Thanks for the info on that weird pink segmented worm.

There are boiled p-nut lovers and haters, for sure.  They're really just legumes!

By request, here is the Parade of Pies. No one else posted photos, so my cellphone snapshots will have to do.

#2 of 4 isn't posting. I give up.

Oh shoot, I'm sorry!  Forgot to post my pictures of the pies!  We just finished up the leftovers we had a couple days ago, so I'm still in a pie hangover, I think.

JPfeff, please pass along this story to the Pie Diva that I heard on NPR last night:

The story: http://www.npr.org/2014/07/07/329585126/whipping-up-a-second-serving-of-atlantic-beach-pie
The recipe: http://www.npr.org/2013/04/11/176279512/a-north-carolina-pie-that-elicits-an-oh-my-god-response

I don't think I've seen it at previous Pie Days, so maybe next year?

Abe - We found that recipe earlier this year. I started a thread about it in the pie forum.

The thread is Vintage Pies & Recipes. I bet NPR got the idea from here.

Any chance that next year there'll be enough pies so that a few can be used for skeet?
