Lots of mayo on the top bun and lots of mayo on the bottom bun!  No ketchup or mustard.  Sorry, Tom, I'm a mayo kind of girl when it comes to burgers!

...  I like Mayo on the top bun ...  lleechef got that right!   ... The mayo is dressing for the salad mix on top of the burger.  But, I do like mustard & ketchup (sometime mayo too) on the bottom bun as it is the compliment to the beef.    ... The hamburger is an amazing meal in a small package.   It is chopped steak, salad, and (Texas) toast.

Salad? You mean you're one of those weird people who puts lettuce and tomato on a hamburger?

Exactly   ... A complete meal between two pieces of bread.    ... I guess you are one of the odd people who eat their salad on the side forgetting it all going to be mixed together anyway.

Salad is not something I eat on the side. Or in the middle. Or anywhere else. I try to make sure I never eat what my food eats.

For what it's worth, CTF, Ed, and Glenn, I'm with you on this!!  But then I'm a full-blown mayo-phobe so it doesn't go on my BLT or tuna or anything else, either...

I agree. Catsup should be banned. But it would be OK if used on corned beef hash.

Let's add yellow mustard to that list

A very thin spread of mayo on both faces of a toasted bun will prevent the bun from becoming damp from steam and juices.

For me or anyone else who is revulsed by wet bread, this 'technique' works great.

(By 'very thin' I mean a small dab of mayo to begin with, then - after it's applied and spread - scraping any excess off with a clean butter knife; mayo haters won't even know it's there).

Ketchup and Mayo on the top bun, mayo on the bottom bun. Then put two juicy Black angus burgers between the buns. Top these babies with bacon, juicy ripe tomatoes, crispy lettuce and melted cheddar cheese. A burger without mayo and ketchup is a boring meal.

No mayo for me. I don't hate mayo, it just doesn't do anything for the burger. I used to be real picky and would send back burgers if they had mayo on them, but now I guess I'm getting old and lazy. If something has mayo on it I just eat it and hope the next one doesn't.
Now one thing I just can't stand is mayo on a STEAK SANDWICH!

About 25-30% of the time when I say NO MAYONAISE, it comes with Mayonaise, I do send it back. Totally agree on the Steak sandwich!

Aw Jeez..forgetfulness.......and that reminds me of an Email I recently got:

Pfizer Corp. announced today that Viagra will soon be available in liquid form, and will be marketed by Pepsi Cola as a power beverage suitable for use as a mix.
It will now be possible for a man to literally pour himself a stiff one. Obviously we can no longer call this a soft drink, and it gives new meaning to the names of 'cocktails', 'highballs' and just a good old-fashioned 'stiff drink'. Pepsi will market the new concoction by the name of: MOUNT & DO. Thought for the day: There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's research. This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge  erections and absolutely no recollection of what to  do with them.

Tom,
Go mix yourself a Grey Goose and MOUNT & DO.  Maybe that will help you get over the mayonnaise thing!

A very thin spread of mayo on both faces of a toasted bun will prevent the bun from becoming damp from steam and juices.

For me or anyone else who is revulsed by wet bread, this 'technique' works great.

I get revulsed by wet bread, but get even more revulsed by mayo.     Butter will also act as a moisture barrier, and would be my method to accomplish what you described above.   Luckily, I'm okay with butter.
But, I generally don't use butter, either, unless it's a sandwich I plan to pack and eat at a later time.

For restaurants mayo is cheaper than butter and easier to work with.  Using the 'avoid wet buns' technique I described above the mayo is used so sparingly you can't even taste it.

Of course, if one enjoys the mayo taste by all means slather it on and keep napkins handy.

(For home use i'm one of those Miracle Whip weirdos - Better Living Through Chemistry!)

If I could find the tomatos lleechef illustrated above, a LTM burgr is quite tasty in the Summer.

About the tomatoes.........they were the tomatoes "on the vine" that you get at the store in the winter.  Not great, but OK.  Just yesterday I said to MH, "I can hardly wait for the summer beefsteak tomatoes!!"  Then pile on the tomatoes and lots of mayo on that grilled burger!
