WOW! 3 pages so far on this!!!!! As for the originator of topic, hope he/she is not from the South, where they put shockingly vile combination of mustard and mayo on EVERYTHING! As a kid, we used to stop at a place for lunch on trips into South in town of Great Falls, SC (I-77 now bypasses this depressed little area, used to be detoured onto US 21)....they put mayo on EVERYTING, including a red-sauced bbq sandwich and a grilled cheese. The mayo on the bbq caused me to go into complete tantrum to the point of pulling the family dog's ears in backseat till I got the bite I so richly deserved.... Have to hear about this at EVERY family dinner at holidays now (and this happened 30+ years ago)....all of this because of MAYONNAISE!!!! Mayo has its places...great on a turkey sandwich or mixed with tuna. BUT NEVER on bbq, or cheese, or God forbid, on a good Italian sub!!!! Another mayo horror apparently from depression era - I guess not much lettuce or greens then, so grandparents love "salad" from that era that is block of jello placed on single lettuce leaf with big blob of mayo on top!!! (Jello probably has grated carrots congealed into it) That is SO GROSS!!!!!!!!!!! If I do eat it, I like Hellmann's - I may be from the South but don't quite get the love affair everyone down here has with Duke's - yuck!

I am sure it is a spoof also. First of all there is no commerdially available mayo that is made with raw eggs. I would guess that the only restaurants you might find raw eggs in the mayo would be rather upscale. Cakes

On a food note: My old version of Larousse Gastronomique actually has preparations for both donkey and elephant. Have never tried either so I cannot vouch for them, however they do exist.

PLOP! It really has nothing to do with the real, egg-yolk-filled, fresh variety. The best packaged mayonnaise I have had is from Japan -- don't laugh, Kewpie brand. It is $6.00 a bottle. You can also get some German and French imports. Otherwise, short of making it yourself, there is no substitute McIlhenny Farms makes a good Spicy Mayonnaise with Tabasco Sauce. The base is Blue Plate Real Mayonnaise, "...the favorite mayonnaise of the Gulf South", which I don't recall ever seeing in stores. I usually use Hellman's Reduced, but I found a jar of this stuff in a Farmer's Market. It has 100 calories per serving (100% fat), but some things are worth dying for. There used to be a brand of gourmet mayonnaise marketed by Dave's Gourmet (garlic and parsley, sundried tomato, curry or "Yucatan"), but they don't make them anymore and the last jars I had did not weather well. What is the recommended expiration date for bottled goods and sauces that don't have a printed expiration date, anyway? TSP

If the color and odor are weird..........toss them out. If you use it and are not in pain within 6 hours, it is safe to comsume

From mayonnaise to Jim Nabors...ya gotta love these forums... And something I learned early in life: Just because YOU don't like something, it doesn't make it disgusting or vile. It just means you don't like it or you can't have it for whatever reason. And the original poster could have and should have just...posted it differently to begin with.

That's the point... I don't like those condiments and was hoping people had suggestions where I can most safely eat without fear. If I get even a molecule of mayonnaise on my food, I can die. Trace amounts contaminated from a knife or a glove or a counter can do me in. I have also searched to no avail for a restaurant where I can safely order a sandwich due to the building not having any of the substance on the premises. Kinda a "Mayo-Free Zone". quote:Originally posted by Poverty Pete You HATE mustard, ketchup, and mayo? Don't spend much time at Burger King, eh?

I now live in Ohio and when I first moved here I was amazed they put ketchup on everything. I have always hated ketchup, but love tomatoes. Survival has required ordering everything plain and asking for them to clean any knives etc. that are being used. Despite that, there have been a number of emergency room visits and I've carried an epi syrince for years now. Ideally, I'd like to stumble on a chain that just doesn't allow the stuff on the premises and screens other things that might contain it. Having intelligent help that understands what has mayo in it would also help. So many morons think that Russian Dressing isn't mayo -- it is indeed just mayo with a disguise of some sort. For me, ordering everything plain -- no sauces, no dressings -- is my only option. quote:Originally posted by Pwingsx Rwschemquest, Considering the intensity of your problem, and the prevalence of mayonnaise in our food culture, how did you ever surive to whatever age you are now? It's the uncooked egg albumin that is so dangerous to me. Commercial mayonnaise products might be pasteurized, but all that does is assure there is no bacteria present. I have to make sure any egg products I eat are actually cooked so the albumin breaks down and does not cause me a problem. quote:Originally posted by PammyJo quote:Originally posted by rwschemquest I have a severe allergy to mayonnaise (actually, it's the RAW egg in it that is the problem), and I prefer to not take chances of needing a rush trip to the ER, especially when traveling because of some cross contamination. Like and dislike are one thing... but I agree with the earlier poster that this sounds a bit more than a food allergy. One molecule of mayo would send you to the emergency room? ooook... maybe... i think it may be more in your head. Whatever. I'll bet you're a real fun date.

You probably know that the most recent postings jump to the top of the list on the Roadfood home page. So post away on old topics, they often start up again. (As an aside to the Mayor or the Sterns, maybe the 'Most Recent Forum Topics' list could be longer? Maybe they could be time stamped to stay up for a day or two?) Dino In fact, I have to admit to tendencies of e-thriftiness, which means that I kind of like resurrecting old threads, rather than starting new ones, especially if there is new information to add! I've often dug deep and posted on a thread that's been two years old -- lately I've noticed however that there are few threads over a year old. Sometimes I have been grossed out by mayo -- mostly by how it looks when it gets crusty at room temperature. But it is one of the great simple sides, but I know a lot of people find the proposition of putting raw egg and oil on anything to be disgusting. And then there is how cheap hot dogs get made ....

I don't like ketchup (and NOT just because of Terrr-Eeeeze-Aaahhh) nor do I like mustard. My philosophy on "food-life" is that if something is good, it should be able to stand on it's own merit without putting anything all over it. I also don't like my food to touch each other on my plate and have always eaten one item at a time before moving on to the next item. I have always thought that even the very best food should be enjoyed and savored completely on it's own without mixing flavors. Mayo, however, is a health issue for me. Speaking of ketchup, I have been in tomato processing plants and I am convinced if anyone has seen the entire process, no one would touch ketchup (or catsup, if you prefer). Hot dog processing is glorious relative to the processing of ketchup. quote:Originally posted by marberthenad clarification -- i like german curry ketchup -- and have posted on that subject earlier . quote:Originally posted by marberthenad quote:Originally posted by rwschemquest I have a severe allergy to mayonnaise (actually, it's the RAW egg in it that is the problem), and I prefer to not take chances of needing a rush trip to the ER, especially when traveling because of some cross contamination.
