It is beyond sweet IMHO. Granted, I don't like sweet tea at all, but I got some of this by accident and it was like drinking sugar water.

Hmmmm...I'm thinking it's only available in the South. I'll see when I get back home, though. If I can go there and get sweet tea without having to make it (which is often a major PITA since I don't usually have time), McD's is gonna be getting a LOT more of my business.

I guess I am a yankee by heart, originally from NJ, and now in CA via the United States Air Force, after many of my husband's assignments,....

        BUT

        I cannot bear "sweet tea"!

I just love the fresh taste of tea, cold, and with maybe with a dash of lemon, but sweet?

it's powdered stuff. It's not tea. It's just powdered sugar with tea flavoring.
          it's yuck-o

good sweet tea is a treat. Admittedly, even real sweet tea is too much sugar for me, but like a coke classic, a small glass is a nice treat from time to time.

Powdered? Blech. Thanks for the heads up, I'll just continue making it on my own.

Me, I'm a Yankee who's really a Southerner at heart...I cannot stand either unsweetened tea or tea with lemon in it.

Sweet tea at Mc D's won't get a blink from me. I love sweet tea, and Mrs Oneiron makes the best - but McD's is not on my radar screen. If I want sweet tea, I'll stop at a Quick Trip where they brew their own.

I prefer Chick fil A's sweet tea. MUCH better! But for really good sweet tea, I just brew my own at home with Lipton.

The McD's on my way to work opens at 5:30am, a couple of times a week I hit it at about 5:45 for a sausage biscuit. Their tea is not made with powder, looks like a giant teabag in a large coffee maker. It slides in the top of the machine and hot water is fed through, again, just like a coffee pot. Sometimes it is a little too sweet so I mix it 50/50 with non sweet and a couple of slices of the fresh lemon they put on the counter.

My experience with iced tea served in fast food franchises is that in the northeast, most use some premix or powdered mix. In the south, they brew tea from scratch. A native southerner I know thinks that is because customers down south simply would not buy the "no work required" iced tea. But with those tea makers that are really only modified coffee makers, there is no reason anymore to use the Nestea, Lipton, etc. premixes today.

LMAO but one of the most high priced, "yuppie" places, here in Sacramento told me their secret "recipe".

They throw one large Lipton's industrial size tea bags, (from Costco) into a a gallon of cold water, voila, nice clear fine tasting tea.

And, charge $ 3 for it?????

It is fine tea, though, but who would pay $ 3?

Felix, I'm a Southerner who's a Yankee at heart... I tried sweet tea when I moved down here, but much prefer to drink it unsweetened or with a touch of Splenda. Guess I will never be a true Southern gal! LOL

McDonald's just added Sweet tea to their menu here in Jersey and man, am I loving it. And at $1 for 32 oz.it's a bargain as well. I don't even want to know the nutritional value of it (if there is any). Ignorance is bliss. And for the record, it is NOT a powedered mix because I saw the machine as well. Yummmmmmmmmmm!

We got it here about a month ago, and I love it! It even got approval from my SO, who's from Alabama. And it's surely a whole heck of a lot easier than making my own (not that I don't any more, but with my schedule I often have to go without for extended periods of time).

It's not exactly right, but it's the closest and best thing I can find here in Michigan.

Why do people continue to buy a Yugo and then complain that it doesn't drive like a Lexus? When I go to a FF restaurant, I expect that what I get will be palatable, but not great. I'm rarely disappointed.

It's just like when I was young , stupid and broke, I bought Kroger's brand of beer that sold for about $.88 for a sixpack. I never once expected it to taste like a Michelob. When I pay $1.00 for a big cup of sweetened tea at McD's, I don't expect it to be the nectar of the gods. I expect it to be wet, sweet, and resembling tea. If I want a really good glass of tea, I make my own, using filtered water. When I was a kid, my father worked for the local water company and he was a big tea drinker. I can remember a number of times when he'd sit down to dinner and take a drink of the freshly made iced tea, and then immediately get on the phone to the filtration plant and tell them that there was an off-taste to the water. You could drink the water and it would taste fine, but make tea with it and a funky taste would magically appear. It got to the point that the Mgr of the filtration plant would chase down my father to see how the iced tea was tasting lately.

Does anybody know whether it's sweetened with sugar or HFCS? It's got an HFCS taste to me, but maybe I'm nuts.

I've tried it and don't like it. I order the McDonalds unsweetened ice tea and drink it like that.

Actually, I think their unsweet tea is very good. I have gotten the sweet tea a couple of times in error and that stuff will set my teeth on edge it is so sweet.

Funny I just noticed the original post date... no wonder I thought felix4067 was crazy... we JUST got it here in the Boston area.

I am not a sweet tea drinker (but LOVE the Beacon's tea!!!), however I thought I'd try it one day because the price is so good. IMHO it's very drinkable, and I agree with jman's longer post - I didn't expect much so it exceeded my expectations.

That's the point of sweet tea!

I uhmmm often receive the big ol' bags of McDonalds tea. When I brew it up, it takes a large canning pot to hold it all. I then distribute it to the neighbors in gallon containers, unsweetened , so they can sweeten it to taste. I'm soooooo popular 'round here now.

Okay, I did it and came back alive. It seems that Macky Dee's sweet tea has become somewhat of a religion. And Roadfood.com is the second hit on Google....this thread to be precise. Is that what you were referring to, Stephen?

Yes, I found it funny that a web site devoted to non-franchised fast food shows up at the top of a Google search.

I'm not a major tea drinker, but in my opinion, tea should never be sweet. Regular ol' iced tea is fine, don't ruin it by pouring a half gallon of corn syrup and honey flavoring in it.

It's a good thing you don't make decisions for the rest of us. And btw, most places that serve sweet tea, sweeten it with granulated sugar when it's still hot or with simple syrup.

It's a good thing I don't, indeed. McDonald's has all three of my favorite pops (Coke, Barq's, and Dr Pepper, in that order), so I can't complain.

McDonalds sweet tea is definately not powered, it's brewed, and it's pretty good. Well worth the $1 if you're in a out and too lazy to bring your own tea. Chick-fil-a's sweet tea though tastes ok, upsets too many stomachs around here. (maybe they don't clean their dispenser)

And morningglory, no disrespect, but lemon in tea?! That's disgusting :) Why would you take a bitter drink and add lemon? I like tea, I love lemons (i eat them raw) but please not together. Now 1/2 lemonade, 1/2 tea isn't too terrible.

That would ruin it indeed! No self-respecting drinker of sweet tea would stoop to corn syrup OR honey to sweeten tea!

Two quarts = 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar, dissolved in hot tea before the cold water is added. (Which, by the way, is 1/2 cup more sugar than what you'd find in two quarts of Kool-Aid.)
